Your summary, from the start, drew me in. I think I'll really enjoy these little stories. This first one was very insightful, too-- though I've always respected Denethor as a leader, I do think Aragorn would be more of a people's man. Lovely first chapter. Now I'll go off and read the rest. :D

Author Reply: Thanks you for your comments, and I'm glad you're enjoying the vignettes. They're certainly fun to write. I think you've given a perfect description of what I meant to accomplish by writing Denethor into this first vignette. My intention was not to disparage Denethor but to show that he and Aragorn likely interacted quite differently with the common man. I think Aragorn's background as a ranger and his time spent at places like the Prancing Pony would have made him more of a "people's man" too.

Yes--the new King of Gondor's habit of smoking a pipe would indeed be likely to corrupt all of Gondor, wouldn't it? Love the innkeeper deciding this King is indeed far different from his predecessor.

Author Reply: I'm glad you agree that pipe-smoking was bound to come to Gondor when Elessar did. I wanted to stick to canon, but I just can't imagine that Aragorn wouldn't have brought certain habits with him, and those habits had to have influenced the public!
