Awww... Absolutely adorable!!! I have to admit you got me completely fooled by the first lines of this story... For a moment I really thought I was going to witness a brave battle... :) But i think I like your resolution even better! Dear old Imrahil, playing with his nephew... I know i'm not going to see a fic where Denethor himself plays with his sons, but that would be very nice indeed... sigh As for the last part... how very, very sweet!! I'm a sucker for family stories with Faramir and his children, and this was so cute! And your name for Faramir's daughter was really fitted as well - preserving the "mir" in both her father's and her uncle's name... :) Thanks for sharing such a wonderful piece! :) Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the piece; I don't find writing children to be easy; so I'm happy when they come out believable. Though I think Faramir would have been precocious, a kid is still a kid; and most of them would love playing pirates with uncles or fathers. I believe I've read at least one or two stories where Denethor plays with his children; though I don't remember the titles or authors. I don't see Denethor as a man who is particularly at ease with young children, who would be a hands-on father, though I believe he loved his sons, particularly Boromir. I do think Faramir would enjoy playing with his kids when he had the time; and I could see him trying to give his daughter some quality time too. (the way I see the character, it would be hard to ignore Miriel, she'd find a way to participate!)

These fics are great fun! I loved the Gilbert and Sullivan quote at the beginning. The characterization of the children is believable and cute without being cloying, and I love the gentle interaction with the adults, first Imrahil and then Faramir. But Faramir and Eowyn are going to have their hands full with little Miriel, lol! A shield-maiden in training, I think. My favorite line was "Even the vile corsair Sangahyando had a mother," Faramir, once a Captain of Gondor himself, said. "But I am certain that she would forbid her children to stay out in the rain. We must hasten, to avoid your mother’s wrath." Even vile pirates respect their mothers! Thanks for the generous beta-reading credit, but I am a beta-reader with a very easy job and these were a joy to read. :-)

THese were just delightful, I loved the G& S reference and the idea that Faramir grew up interested in the exploits of Thorongil. The last line of the second one is deeply moving. I always imagine Faramir as a loving father who would play with his children. Author Reply: Thanx for reading and reviewing, Linda. I couldn't leave out the Pirates of Penzance reference. I'm sure many Gondorian youngsters, from Dol Amroth to Minas Tirith, played pirates and loved to be the legendary Captain Thorongil. A pity that Tolkien never wrote out the famous duel between Thorongil and the corsair captain in more detail, but at least he sketched it for the avid readers.

And so the game goes from generation to generation, and adults with imagination and true love of the children involved share the games with pleasure. Author Reply: I imagine that pirate games have always been a staple of Gondorian children's playtime; and Thorongil's victory would have been re-enacted for at least one generation by the kiddies (must have irked Denethor no end). I think Faramir would have, like his uncle, loved to play with the children when he had the time. Thanx for the review!

That's really cute! I always suspected there was a bit of Boromir in Elboron. So Imrahil was with Thorongil, was he? I might have known it. There's just no getting away from either of them. Faramir is impeccable as always, at any age. Author Reply: It seems to be fanon that Elboron resembles his late uncle physically and otherwise; though I've also seen a few stories where he's charmless and cold-hearted. In my Tolkien Fourth Age fanfic sub-universe, Elboron does resemble Boromir, at least as a child, though I haven't figured out how much. It's various fanfic authors, rather than Tolkien, who have assigned Imrahil to Thorongil's mission to Umbar, but it makes a lot of sense, since Dol Amroth's cooperation would probably have been necessary, or at least helpful. Two nice stories about very known children, who play pirates. I am amused about Faramir's daughter who will be the pirate queen. She has inherited a lot of Éowyn's temperament. Author Reply: Oh, little Miriel's a pistol alright. And she's just as much Boromir's niece and the grandchild of Eomund and Denethor as she is Eowyn's child. There are a lot of powerful genes in that family. Thanx for the review, Celebne!

Hi Raksha! These were great. To be perfectly honest, I'd imagined something even nastier and more terrifying with Aragorn being caught alone in the wild by the Nazgul, but your idea is much more likely. I love number two--especially the last sentence, "Forever is a long time." I don't know why, but it makes me feel as though sometime in the far distant eternity, Beregond will come back... As for the third one--pirates! hee! Cheers! Will we be having a few more? Author Reply: Thanx for reading and reviewing, Nimloth. Well, I didn't think Aragorn had been captured by the Nazgul, but I could see him attacked and only escaping by the seat of his pants, and being scared out of his very strong mind. I do think Beregond might return to the White City. Not sure if I'll write it up though. Yes, there will be a few more. It's an open-ended compilation. Might take awhile, though. I have to wait on a darned finicky muse. I'm pleased that you're interested in more ficlets; and will certainly try to oblige, if you don't mind waiting.

These are so funny. I can so see Faramir and his brother and Faramir's own kids play pirates. Actually, I had read the second of these drabbles somewhere else, and I didn't realise it was written by you. I escpecially like the idea of Faramir's children taking their father "prisoner" -- it's great to see him play with his little ones. Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed these linked ficlets. Hmm, the only place I'd posted Pirate Jewel prior to posting it here was at my livejournal. I had a lot of fun writing the pieces. Little Miriel turned out to be quite a character!
