| That's really very spooky! Paladin doesn't usually seem the sort to be subject to - er - anything unnatural! But I should think they were both very glad to get out of that adventure with no more than a scare. Author Reply: Thank you. Paladin is an interesting character to discover. It's great to have a Took to be the eldest among the cousins for a change :) The scare, I am afraid, was mostly on Paladin's side. However, Mac might be more suspicious about lakes in the future :) | |

| *shiver* That was a thoroughly spooky story and gave me the creeps. I've seen one or two lakes which look like that, and they are very sinister - even though they don't move about! We also have the Rollright Stones here in England, and it is said they can never be counted. If I was Mac I don't think I'd be venturing into that wood again! Author Reply: The Lay of the Black Lake really exists - though I allowed myself several changes and expansions :) But it is a creepy place. Well, I don't know about Mac but Paladin surely will be more wary. Thanks for reading. | |

| My, that was creepy! I could literally feel Paladin shiver, especially when that voice started to hum along with him. "Great!" Merimac growled, not concealing his irritation. "More fanciful Tooks with nightmares!" Brandybucks and Tooks! That's a never ending story ;-) But after that last remark of old Berti Mac will have to think it over. Author Reply: Brandybucks and Tooks! That's a never ending story ;-) Indeed, it isn't. Though it is nice to look at this from an earlier generation. And still the Brandybuck is the reasonable one - even though Merimac's sense for mischief might acutally rival that of Pippin :) But then, I think Paladin is sly also :) Thanks for reading, dear! | |

| Yes, some lakes one should just avoid, particularly when they show up where they don't exist. The wood that's suddenly too large was eerie enough, I must say. Author Reply: Yep, sometimes rain is better than the seeming shelter. Thanks for reading. | |
