| And this time the Maia groom takes an Elven bride. And indeed about bloody time! Heh! Will be interesting to see how Northlight settles his concerns. Landish indeed! Author Reply: Ah, these mixed marriages! They do produce some beautiful offspring, however;) And as Frodo noted earlier, immortals would do well to be extremely cautious in choosing a mate, since they are stuck with each other throughout all the ages and not just through one lifetime. | I hope Anemone doesn't miss being able to have flowers spring up where'er she treads and such like! The baby seems exceedingly cute - and Anemone is very laidback about the bridesmaids. Northlight seems to be taking rather an interest in elf maidens! And becoming landish! I thought Anemone was going to die because she wed a mortal - wouldn't that be different if Northlight married an immortal? And a bridal gown for Riannor? That's thinking ahead, Anemone! Author Reply: Frodo has the same concern, I'm sure...which is why he is studying his book so diligently, so he'll be able to compensate her for what she's giving up. Maybe if he's learned his lesson well enough, spring flowers and changing gowns will seem like small po-tay-toes to her after the wedding night! Yes, no bridezilla she! (My friend who is a wedding photographer could tell you all about bridezillas!) Coming from a people who don't have weddings, she has a fresh perspective on the subject, I should think. Well....my reading about water people has been somewhat confusing. According to Hans Christian Andersen, mermaids live about 300 years and then turn into seaweed, unless they mate with a mortal and then they get a human soul and can live in the hereafter. According to other myths, watersprites and undines and selkys are immortal but acquire a human soul by marrying a mortal man and bearing his child. But I've seen nothing about them marrying an immortal. And of course, all the water-folk in those legends were female; I found myself wondering, what if one of them were a male? I was wanting Northlight to acquire a soul also, but supposed he would have to die for that. I don't know what became of Goldberry, a water-lady who married an immortal, come to think of it! | |
