Yes, I can certainly appreciate how he doesn't wish to feel helpless. Good for him. So they are at the moment safely within the cave, although such a placement might also be a trap if someone tries to smoke them out--seems that worked back in the caves near Scary to fetch out Fredegar and his fellows.
