| I really wish that you were still writing, GamgeeFest--I would so love to see a story about that thank-you letter which Aragorn wrote to the Gaffer! Sam would have had to read it to him, of course, since the Gaffer can't read. This is a great story, and so is the one covering the birthday celebration in Hobbiton! Author Reply: Hi, KathyG. | Nice to see The Birthday being observed in both places and that Aragorn got a look at Frodo before he was so damaged. Indeed *always* loved, hugged and secure. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: The Birthday will always be observed, at least as long as the Travellers remain in the Shire. :) Aragorn never got to see Frodo as a true hobbit, carefree and happy. He might have seen glimpses while they were staying in Rivendell, but even then Frodo was much changed by the Ring and the Quest. I was happy to be able to remedy that. :D Thanks for reading! | |

| Loved every inch of this GamgeeFest! Too much to highlight but enjoyed the suggested uses for stale bread! Only one question. How do you thread a knife with bread? Author Reply: That's what I thought when I read the bread tips on... forget the name of the website. I sort of imagine it like a needle being threaded through fabric. Maybe it's something only hobbits can really understand. :P I'm so happy you enjoyed this so much!!! *hugs* | |

| I had such a wonderful time reading this chapter. The three letters were a perfect reflection of the personality of each writer. I loved Pippin's rambling paragraphs about the bread and Aragon's frippery. Merry's more sophisticated style of writing suited him perfectly. I especially liked how he included how Pippin and Sam were doing. Sam's letter was as homey as Sam himself. His inclusion of how to be rid of slugs was perfect as was the inculsion of Rose's desire to clean out some of the clutter of Bag End and his own wish for Aragorn to write the Gaffer in order to ease his mind about sending a family portrait to nonfamily. The choices of gifts that Pippin, Merry, and Sam sent seemed so right. I know that Aragorn will treasure each of them for all his days. Author Reply: Pippin may find it harder to ramble in writing, but he manages it quite well. :P Merry knows that Pippin and Sam would write little of themselves, Pippin because he writes so little to begin with, at least usually, and Sam becuase he's more the type to mention everyone else but himself. Sam just couldn't help be a gardener and include those tips for the slugs, and he and Rose are going to be having some heated discussions over that mathom room, I think. :D I have an idea about the Gaffer's letter. *grins* The gifts, except maybe the stale bread, will be much treasured. ;) | |

| *groan* I was afraid the bread recipe would have yeast in it. I kill yeast and no matter how many times I try, even w/my Mom watching me, I still manage to do something wrong and my bread always ended up hard and flat. And this from the daughter of a woman whose bread and rolls are renowed. Maddening isn't the word for it. Anyway...What a lovely and poignant little story. Poor Merry, but then again, only Pippin would make wood dye in a tin labeled "Biscuits". :oD I loved all of the gifts and letters. I can so understand Aragorn's emotions at the portait of Frodo and his family. Seeing Frodo as he was before losing his parents and before the Ring and Quest seared him, would have been very bittersweet indeed. I loved this. Thanks for sharing it w/us. Author Reply: Hello Tigger! My bread always comes out perfect - right from the store-bought bag and onto my plate. ;) I'm not much of a baker, myself. I would have thought all bread would have yeast in it, so I learned something new today. :D Pippin, while vastly matured, still has many childlike qualities. And to be fair, he did warn Merry, though that was most likely after Merry's hand was already halfway into the tin! LOL That drawing of Frodo will be much treasured by all of Middle-earth once it is placed in the museum at Gondor. If there is a portrait of Frodo as he was after the Quest, people will be shocked at the difference. Bittersweet, but I think the sweet outweighs the bitterness by a tad. Thank you for reading!! | |

| This made me laugh and want to cry. It has the kind of gentle warmth and poignance that I find hard to describe. The letters are so characteristic of all of them. :) Yes, it's good to see them whole and happy, though different from the innocent ones who left the Shire seven years before. Now I must go and read the next one! God bless, Galadriel P.S. The recipe for bread is so Hobbity! :) Esp. the cook's notes. :) Author Reply: Thank you QG! The letters were a lot of fun to write, and seeing Aragorn's reactions to them was interesting. I was uncertain if I was making this a tad too angsty at the end, but I think there's enough fluff and comfort in the rest of it that it's not too overwhelming. Sounds like I struck just the right note. :) I can take no credit for the bread recipe, or the cook's notes. That's all Llinos! :D | |
