Pitfalls of the Palantir  by Haleth 6 Review(s)

This was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed it -- I like the characters, and there was definitely enough mystery about both to keep me guessing. I'm glad to see there are a few more stories, I'll have to check them out! :-) Thanks for writing!

Oh, Haleth, this was completely enjoyable and totally sucked up my day. LOL! Thanks for a good read. Now you have to work tirelessly on Tilde. ;)

Cheers,
Medea

Did I just say Gildor?? I meant Inglor *looks sheepish*

Author Reply: That's ok. I knew who you meant. Gildor's full name was Gildor Inglorion, or Gildor son of Inglor. It goes back to a time before Tolkien changed Inglor's name to Finrod and decided that Finrod did not leave any heirs.

*grin* O dear, are we going to have to start all over again? Could someone please tell that walrus to leave those clams be.
Loved your story and I hope to read more, especially with Haleth and Gildor in them.

Author Reply: Thank-you, Selene

It looks as though the whole thing is set to repeat itself, isn't it? I can't imagine how Inglor would convince Haleth to go through the entire adventure again, especially because she seems bound and determined to go her own way.

Oh no! It could all start again! I hope Odob hides this one away somewhere safe.

Author Reply: It could begin again, couldn't it? Hopefully Odob will have better luck keeping his clam this time, although I think he'd be less than impressed by it when it proved inedible.

Odob would abandon the clam on the beach and, if the Lossoth did not find it, it would remain there for years as the world changed around it and the shape of the sea changed and it was buried beneath the rocks and shifting sands of time. Until some enterprising Sixth Age treasure hunter dug it up. What would become of it then? Would Inglor try to retrieve it? Wouldn't THAT be a culture shock for everyone involved?

This has been such a pleasant trip.. and I love it that it ends as it began! SO the circle is almost closed since we know not how many relics Inglor was after. Yet I love it that you leave it there. Open. Or closed. I have enjoyed this tale more than I can tell, Haleth, it is clever and witty and also thoughtful and perfectly in canon. THere are memorable OCs (i so liked the mAster of Esgaroth) and hilarious moments, and a perfect use of condensed language to express such a range of emotions! I think that making people laugh with written word is one of the most difficult exercises, and you succeded perfectly here.

I´d love to see more adventures. I´ll be patient. Congratulations for the good job and many thanks for many enjoyable moments! :-)

It was very good of you to take the time to review each and every chapter, even when there was a two month gap in posting and even with the interludes, which are quite short. Your reviews always encouraged me to keep at it. Writing can be a solitary activity and it is always good to know another person is enjoying the story.

I've never liked closed endings where everything it tied up in a nice, neat package. Life is never like that, why should stories?

'...we know not how many relics Inglor was after...'

Well, not yet, at any rate. And who's to say Inglor is the only relic hunter?

You give me too much credit for using condensed language. I wish I could say it's a well honed skill, but in fact it's the only way I know how to write. The same can be said for the comedy. It's not really intentional. It's just what seems to happen. Never ascribe to genius what can easily be explained by laziness.

There should be more Inglor and Haleth adventures. Vampfan30 has been gracious enough to beta read for me. (YAY Vampfan!) But it will be slow because I edit at the rate of continental drift.

Again, thank-you for all of the reviews and encouragement.
