Castamir's Heir  by Haleth 8 Review(s)
aelfwineReviewed Chapter: 1 on 7/24/2011
I'm surprised Inglor is interested in following haleth. Is it just his curiosity or does he somehow now feel responsable for her? In any event for a Noldorin elf he does not seem very quick on the uptake does he?

Author Reply: Haleth doesn't quite understand it herself, but there's no way she'd ever ask him directly.

Inglor seems oblivious to all of Haleth's signals. The idea was that, as he's from a completely different culture, he doesn't pick up on many of the social cues that Haleth takes for granted. He just doesn't make the same assumptions that she does. It leads to a great deal of miscommunication (which I totally pump). There's also a bit of the standard male/female talking past each other.

He does seem oddly resistant to learning. Or he might have clued in and now does it for his own reasons...whatever they might be.

Thanks for reviewing and making me think.

i think inglor should slowly but surely -and i think he's already half way there- fall in love with Haleth. SHE is holding him here, making him not want to go back into the west. I want to see more interaction between them that isn't arguing but some moments so that later if he does leave her then she can remember them- are light, carefree and special.

Author Reply: Thank-you for reviewing, silvereyes.

Inglor doesn't really show his emotions in ways that Haleth can understand.

I really like your suggestion that the two characters interact in a friendly way. It will be a challenge: Haleth is very crusty and Inglor seems to have flunked Communicating for Mortal Women 101, but I'll see what I can do. You've given me something to think about. :)

Thank-you again.

Oh wonderful. More fun with Haleth and Inglor. I'm not entirely sure that he is a confused by her as she is with him - but I wouldn't be surprised. Haleth is most definitely not an ordinary woman. She's a woman with very special boots - boots that remind me of Trigger's broom. (I don't know if you are acquainted with Only Fools and Horses. Apparently the clip can be seen here - http://uktv.co.uk/index.cfm/uktv/Gold.stepbystep/aid/579394)

I am not moved to like the people amongst whom they are travelling. Not at all. And I, too, wonder where Haleth got her sword.

Author Reply: Thank-you, Bodkin.

Thanks for the link! It was absolutely hilarious. Yes, Haleth's boots are exactly like Trigger's broom. Proudly and lovingly preserved in the face of all reason and common sense.

It's hard to say who is more confusing for whom. I don't think I'd lay bets on it.

Tolkien doesn't really tell us much about the Corsairs. It just seems the sort of behavior sadly common to all despots no matter twhere they are or when they live(d).

Thank-you again.

Yeay! Another story about Inglor and Haleth.
Great start here, they are both still so much a mystery, I'm hoping we will learn more of Haleth's and Inglor's past. And more about that silver ring of Haleth and now that sword.
This sure sounds like an other intriguing story.

Author Reply: Thank-you, Selene. I'm very glad you're happy to see another story. I'm sorry to say but this one is set before the Palantir story so the silver ring won't be making an appearance.
Thanks again.

Wow, we are back in time! it is wonderful to go back to their tense relationship and all those misunderstandings.
He knew by now that asking about its origins and how she had come into possession of it would be of no use, especially given Haleth's foul mood. He would have to search for fragments of information. It is amusing, for this is what HAleth thinks as well about him on occasion. And I loved the detail about her boots. I seem to remember you mentionning somethng about her boots being special to her in one chapter of the Palantir...

And I really liked the opening. PErfectly humorous while being a wonderful description. Welcome back!

Author Reply: Thank-you, perelleth.

Each character seems to have their own defense mechanism to avoid having to explain too much to the other. Inglor seems to not understand certain questions. He seems to know Haleth, at some level, will find it too much effort, too confusing and possibly too revealing to explain herself fully to him. Haleth makes good use of her temper to deflect unwanted questions.

Yes, the boots are very special, at least to her. I'm impressed you remembered that tiny detail from Palantir.

Thank-you again.

Oh goodie! I'm so glad we get to see more of Inglor and Haleth - and on another adventure to retrieve artifacts again, I see. I'm hoping that this is a sequel and we will be revisiting some of the loose threads left in Pitfalls, like that silver ring. And it looks as if we might get a little more info about Haleth and how or why she possesses a fine pair of boots and now an Elven sword. She's almost as much of a mystery as is Inglor!

You have a very good introduction to the next romping good adventure. Haleth has lost none of her thorns, and Inglor is still somewhere between slightly bemused and extremely capable. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for them.

Author Reply: Thank-you, MMB.

I'm sorry to say this story takes place before Pitfalls rather than after. Haleth seems perpetually grumpy. Inglor really does find her confusing. Their cultures are extremely different and this leads to a great deal of miscommunication and frustration.

I hope you continue to find the story enjoyable.

I am glad to see a new story started with these two characters, I don't know how you manage it but their personalities are so well done they are almost real to me. I cannot wait to see how this unfolds,I know you won't tell me but why does he follow her around? Will you ever uncover this mystery? I hope so but not now as that would kinda take the fun out of things, will be waiting for more adventures and to see Inglor saving Haleths butt again, your faithful reader The Imp

Author Reply: Thank-you, Elflingimp, that's very high praise. Why does he follow her around? He's got several reasons, some of them good, some of them not so good. There are probably days where he wonders why he bothers.

Thanks for the review.
