Aragorn in Mandos  by Fiondil 16 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 1 on 8/24/2008
Just decided to use some of my vacation to re-read some of your older fics and write reviews :)

High honours for Aragorn, to be welcomed in Mandos not only by Námo, but by Manwë as well! The Elder King really showed his high esteem for him with this greeting and the time he took for him.

No wonder Námo was waiting for Aragorn – it would mean he’s finally able to get rid of Merry and Pippin, isn’t he? *grin* The greeting between the friends was fun. So Námo is being too tender-hearted for his own good, while Aragorn has no tender-hearted bone in his body? Indeed! And Pippin’s comment to that was hilarious! *LOL* I think this irrepressible Took will drive even Eru to distraction.

Glad Aragorn made his peace with Denethor; I think both needed that.

"Diamond," Pippin said. His smile dimmed at the thought of his beloved wife having had to wait for him beyond the Circles of Arda for all these years.
"Esmeralda," Merry said with a nod.

Hm, wouldn’t it be more logical that Merry is talking about his wife Estella, not his mother Esmeralda?

The end was lovely. What a joy for Aragorn to be reunited with his parents, and particularly finally to be able to get to know the father he lost too early to remember him! And I’m with Námo here – I’m a sucker for happy endings, too!

Author Reply: Yikes! All this time and NO ONE picked up on that. Glad you did. I've made the correction so Merry is talking about his wife not his mother. *headdesk* Thanks for the review. I'm glad you liked this one the second (?) time around.

Namo is a big ol' bowl of mush! Not a Vala you would want to get on the wrong side of. Wouldn't mind meeting him one day! If only it were possible!:<)
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Námo is a sucker for happy endings, whatever his PR says. LOL And no, you wouldn't want to get on his bad side, but it would be cool to meet him (even if it would be scary at the same time). Glad you liked this one. Thanks for letting me know.

You captured Aragorn's nobility, his humbleness before the Valar, and his bearing perfectly.

And Sam yelling, "STRIDER!" He'll always be the ranger to Sam, not a king, and rightly so.

Nice to see that Boromir and Faramir are there to greet him, as well as Denethor. The scene between Aragorn and his family was a nice touch too. Finally reunited after all those years.

I'm slowly working my way through all your stories and can only say I'm enjoying them very much. I'd love to meet your Lord Namo, just not under the normal circumstances!

Ces

Author Reply: Thanks Ces, although I think you meant Pippin, rather than Sam. *grin* Anyway, I with you: I'd like to my Lord Námo too, just not under the normal circumstances. LOL

Great story, loved every word of it. From Aragorn wanting his pipe, to all the lovely meetings he had. To bad he could not wait arround form Awren, but Eru knows what all. Lovely scene when he gets together with his parents.

Author Reply: Thanks, I'm glad you so enjoyed this story. That last scene was actually the first one I saw when I thought about this story, so I had to sort of backtrack to the beginning. I just couldn't imagine Aragorn having all those get togethers without including his parents, especially the father he never knew. And like Lord Námo, I like happy endings *grin*.

Some lovely meetings there. Long-awaited.

But it's a shame that Arwen has to be abandoned completely to come in her own time.

Well, as to that....

This was wonderful! Wow! And this is saying something because I was not a Aragorn fan for a long time and though it might be a slight exaggeration still to say I am now I have come to learn of his nobility, humility and gentleness equal to Frodo and Sam who have long held my heart and still very much do. But listening to the BBC drama and reading of him in some of the many books published about the story have given me a greater appreciation of him. I was drawn in by your title and am very glad I did. Love that remark about Aragorn not being tender-hearted. Hah! And moving was Denethor's pledge of allegiance and loyalty and Aragorn's response and the honor given to the king by the Valar. High praise indeed to be welcomed so warmly by them. Kept hoping for him to be reunited with Frodo and Sam too - perhaps you could write a sequel? :) And meeting Iluvatar Himself. Imagine what that was like! Loved the whole thing really.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed this story so much, Antane. I figured the title would be just intriguing enough to draw readers in who might otherwise not bother reading it. While I have always admired Frodo and Sam, my greatest loyalty has been to Aragorn and the nobility of character that he shows and so I enjoy writing about him. Don't know if there is a sequel to this particular story. More than one reviewer has asked for one concerning Arwen, but that story hasn't been revealed to me as yet. But, as Aragorn says (in the movie), "There is always hope". Thanks for reviewing.

This was beautiful and very moving.A truly inspired story, showing Aragorn's greatness and humility.I can well imagine all his friends wanting to greet him9with the possible exceptions of Denethor and Boromir)

Author Reply: Well, Denethor probably was in two minds about it, but Boromir made the decision to wait for Aragorn in my story "Drawing Straigth With Crooked Lines". At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reviewing.

You know how much I would look forward to three final reunions, with Sam and Frodo, with Arwen, and with Elros himself.

Lovely, although I note that Aragorn doesn't need the ecstasy known by Faramir, Boromir, and Denethor for him to accept his place.

Author Reply: As Tolkien points out in one of his leters, Aragorn is able to do voluntarily what Frodo and Sam are helped to do in giving back their lives to Eru and what we "lesser" humans have lost the ability to do (apparently), so there is no need for the ecstacy that the others are allowed to experience to one degree or another. He already has it within him.

Don't know about any other reunions at the moment, but you never know....

Thanks for reviewing.

Oh, Well done! wiping tears away.

I am sorry, I have nothing else to say.

Author Reply: But you've said it all, and that's enough. Thank you.

I liked this very much - a nice view of a happy ending - which is also a beginning, of sorts. Nicely done!

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Like Námo, I always like happy endings, and this one is a happy beginning, as well, as they journey together beyond the Circles of Arda.
