| Hi, I'm sorry to be so late in reviewing this but one of the things I gave up for Lent was reading stories and so now I am working my way through the huge backlog that I have. I love that Frodo's favorite name to be addressed as is Mr. Frodo because he knew all the love that went into being called that. And I hope he realizes that Sam is still very much his friend and brother. I look forward to him discovering who he is now - "broken down and made into something quite different" or however the professor phrased it. (I don't have the exact quote in front of me.) I read in a book about post-traumatic stress that not only is the trauma experienced a wound to recover from but the fact that you have been changed by it and you can't go back to where you were - that is a second wound that must be dealt with. Frodo now has to begin the painful process of intergrating the carefree hobbit he once was with the one who was for intents and purposes a victim of a brutal and repeated rape and when that happens, he will indeed be something different, but healed, bright and beautiful once more inside and out. I look forward to reading more of that journey and I'm sure Celebrian will continue to help as she was a victim of rape herself or might have been and had to heal in any case from her own ordeal. | Poor Frodo. I know that feeling. He needs to get out of his head, step back and just observe for awhile, I think. Let himself just be. I enjoy that Celebrain is helping him to see those walls he keeps running up against, and to hear Frodo talk about Sam was nearly heartbreaking. Ironic that Frodo wished for Sam to be one and whole and now Frodo is the one torn in two. | |

| Oh you write so lovely!! I can't wait for the next chapter. Your fics always bring a little tear to my eye as I think (and, yes, feel) what Frodo is feeling. | Celebrian gave Frodo good advice, but the task that lies before him is not easy. He came to Tol Eressea to forget all the bad, traumatic things that happened to him. And now he finds that he has to remember them to find himself again. But I'd say there will be lots of good memories, too. And *this* was the first one: "I like the last name the best," said Celebrķan. "Why?" asked Frodo. He tilted his head and regarded her closely. | That he would be most gentle saying the name Sam gave him is just right, for Sam didn't see him as a Hobbit or a great lord or and adventurer or a scholar, but as the one person he loved just for himself. And when Frodo can love himself as Sam does, then he will be healing indeed. Author Reply: Yes, there is no role to play in front of Sam. Any role as Master of Bag End may have existed, but it was not a barrier between them. | |
