What a touching and sweet tale. I would hope they released the boats at night. The sight of all those boats drifing down the river would be awesome. I always love seeing the gentle side of Boromir, such as when he was teaching the Hobbits how to handle a sword. We don't see it often enough. Great job. Tari

Poor Boromir - longing for home and family. Teaching this custom to Pippin and Merry must have helped ... and increased his affection for these two. I like to think of the candle floating down the Bruinen in its parchment boat.

I love stories where the characters learn about the customs of the other races and cultures they meet, and this is a lovely instance of Merry and Pippin learning about Boromir and his traditions, and a wonderful way in which they forged their friendship.

A sweet story, and a nice touch with Boromir telling time by the stars. Author Reply: Thank you for reviewing my fic. :) I'm so glad that you liked that little bit about stellar time-telling... since my impression is that pocket watches and such would be extremely rare if they existed at all in Middle-earth--and a good soldier would learn to tell the time of day from his environment. I appreciate your comments. And I look forward to reading more of your work too!

Ah, friend, so this is the beginning. I have never read your tales before - until the other Yule one... I see I must look further... This is delightful.... Author Reply: Thank you for reviewing. :) I have enjoyed your stories on this site so much, and so I truly appreciate your comments on my own pieces. After I'd posted these, it occurred to me that I would have been better to have posted the three separate fics in the trilogy into a single story file as separate chapters... but I didn't think of that in time. I do have other works in progress that I will submit once I get them finished. I hope they please you as much as these have.

Very nicely done - I enjoy seeing interactions between Boromir and the younger hobbits, and this was really lovely. Author Reply: When I re-read LOTR, a lot of times I find myself focusing on following specific characters through the story, and when I was following Pippin, as the Fellowship left Rivendell, it occurred to me that Pippin was missing the Yule Celebration back in the Shire... and Boromir was missing Mettare. And thus this story was born... Thank you for the compliment. I hope that my future works will keep the standard up. :)

What a sweet vignette! I like very much the way Boromir is thinking of his brother, and trying to carry on the tradition. And Merry's and Pippin's own reminiscences, and taking part in the tradition with him was touching. And I like that you did not state their wishes, because we all know what they all three would have been wishing for: an end to the Shadow, and a safe outcome to the Quest. Welcome to Stories of Arda! I hope we see more of your stories. Author Reply: Thank you for your welcome. I had hoped that the Yule Trilogy would bring smiles to people's faces. Writing these helped me through a holiday season that was, for some reason, making me feel sad about my mother's death, even though she has now been gone nine years. I'm so glad that you liked it. I am currently working on a multi-chapter fic that I don't want to post until I have it completed (working on Chapter 9 out of a projected 11 or 12 chapters), and just got bit by a Numenorean plot-Nazgul... so there will be more to come eventually!
