| For some reason, I adore the idea of Big Folk and Hobbits mingling with one another, so I loved this tale. I wished that there was more to the story - but I alwasy want more - even though the story is well and complete, lol. The clarity of the scene was fabulous - I felt as if I was right there among the characters and watching it all unfold. :-) I really enjoy that. :-) PF Author Reply: *blushes* Why thank you dear! | It's good to think that some hobbits knew the value of the Rangers who guarded them. And I do like the simple offer of food in gratitude for the help given to the injured Halbarad. Something that would be valued by both sides - and indicative of a relationship that was equal. Author Reply: I am sure that over the course of many years, at least a *few* residents of the area would have come to realize that the Rangers' sinister reputation was greatly exaggerated. And I am also quite sure Aragorn knew food would be the most appreciated form of thanks he could give to a hobbit family! | |

| Aw! I'm glad you picked Mr. Mugwart for this one! It's just amazing what can be done with such minor characters! I love this, as I have loved all of them so far. | Oh, how wonderful that it's Hobbits of the Breelands that succor Halbarad as he recovers. And love the Breelands name for him! Rover--how very apt! And so a Hobbit family is the first in the Breelands to realize the Rangers are more than they appear. Very appropriate. Author Reply: I just discovered a few reviews for this one that I missed responding to! Mea culpa! It actually took me longer to think up a good Ranger name for Halbarad than it did to write the rest of the story, LOL! So I am glad that it seemed appropriate. I think Hobbits would have been a bit better judge of character than the Men were, and would only need some close exposure to realize that not all the bad stories about Rangers could be true. | |

| I loved this.I always enjoy Aragorn in healer mode and Halbarad is another character I like.It is also nice to see Aragorn appreciating the Hobbits. Author Reply: I just came across this review! Please pardon my lateness in responding! I too, love Aragorn in healer mode--to me it's his most natural and favorite role. And of course, Halbarad was called for by the prompt. I didn't want to go the AU route, so I went back in time a bit. It just seemed to me that with all their time in Bree and the surrounding area, they must have had *some* positive interaction with a few of the people there--especially hobbits! | |

| Halbarad! *loves* This was really lovely - I like the way that Mugwort's opinion of the Rangers changes. Surely some of the Breefolk must've thought the Rangers were decent sorts, and this is one very good reason why! Author Reply: *grin* When I saw the prompt, I almost thought of asking to borrow your Halbarad, but then I decided not to go the AU route, but go back in time instead. Yes, I think that if a person spent some time with one or more Rangers, they'd soon learn that their sinister reputations were out-of-line with reality. I'm sure that there had to be a *few* people in Bree who'd learn that. And hobbits, I think, would see it more clearly than other Big Folk. | |

| Rover - what a great pseudonym for Halbarad. Though I'm surprised that no one asks if he and Strider are littermates... Lovely vignette; I felt sorry for Rover and Strider not being able to stay and have a good home-cooked meal. And I liked Mr. Mugwort. Author Reply: *giggle* I had a time coming up with something! But you are right, they *do* sort of sound like puppy names, LOL! I'm glad you liked it. I like to think that there must have been some residents of Bree who were able to sometimes see past the "seeming foul" part of the Rangers' facade. | |
