An Alphabet for Middle-earth  by Dreamflower 7 Review(s)

Glad I'm not alone in having trouble keeping everything straight in those tales! I gave up almost right away I think. Too bad I can't have Frodo explain everything to me...

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Those First Age tales were very confusing!! LOL! Poor Folco! But Frodo was a patient teacher.

I became completely confused trying to keep track of everything that was involved. I remember that I told Bilbo that it was like trying to juggle.”

Oh, darn! LOL, I thought you were going to go into a whole dissertation about the Silmarillion! I can't tell you how many times I've tried reading that book. The parts I'm not juggling are terrific.

I really enjoyed that whole scene between Frodo and Fatty; those two are yet another pair rarely put together in a plot. I loved Frodo's love and patience toward his younger cousin.

PF

Author Reply: I've only managed to read it twice, and I certainly didn't keep everything straight!

Well, you know, Fatty *was* in Frodo's inner circle of friends--they *must* have had some occasional one-on-one time! And I see Frodo as always being patient with the younger ones.

So, Fatty's just as enthralled with Elves as Frodo and Sam. I was confused reading that story too, but for entirely different reasons! Too many names, lol! ;)

Author Reply: My Fatty always had a similar interest, though he hid it from most people. He was very fond of the stories, but unlike Frodo, had no interest at that stage of his life in going to find out for himself.

The Silm *is* a hard read. I truly respect writers whose fandom is mainly in the Silm--all those characters, and all that vast amount of time, and all the confusion of motives--it's very difficult; I don't know how they *do* keep it straight!

Fatty isn't the only one who finds the Silmarillion confusing! Why do so many of their name have to begin with "F"? LOL

Author Reply: *snicker* Well, I suppose that's the philologist coming out in JRRT. With him a name was never *just* a name, and it always had to fit whatever language it was in. So what if it confused the reader?

(And what about LotR? Frodo, Fredegar, Faramir... And over half the hobbit last names start with "B") LOL!

Frodo must have been really gratified to find one of his cousins who was as interested in the Elvish tales as he was! And I can so see how Frodo and Fatty would spend uncounted hours in discussion - and that the inner hobbit (stimulated by Merry and Pippin) would require a visit to the Ivy Bush.

Author Reply: Yes, I think it was nice for him to have someone else interested in the things he was. But to forget lunch! *giggle* That just shocked Merry and Pippin, LOL! However, I'm sure they will find something toothsome at the inn.

Oh, what a wonderful moment between Frodo and Fatty! We see too little of good old Fredegar in fanfic, so this is a treat! (And a *really* strange prompt, but you did an admirable job. I get the feeling if I were doing this alphabet, I would have been defeated by now! :))
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Well, I am doing my level best to have at least a mention of a hobbit in each and every one! It's taken a lot of brain-wracking with a couple of them!

Very gratifying to have one of them truly interested, I think.

Author Reply: In my Shire, young Freddy always had an interest in Elves, and that was one thing that drew him in as Frodo's close friend. I think this is the first time since Bilbo left that they've had a chance to explore their common interest.
