Hehe! poor Strider! and I was wondering what Strider would make out of it Become king and lift the ban by royal decree. Now we finally know why he agreed to embrace his destiny! (*snort*) Thank you for a well-needed laugh!

I just now read this, and I must say it brought a smile to my face. Poor Aragorn! No smoking at the Bree does seem rather AU, but not a terribly bad idea to me. We've had such a ban for a number of years now, and it's worked out just fine. Aragorn must have had very good genes indeed to be a smoker and still make it to the ripe old age of 210! Thanks for the laugh, peredhil lover

A smoking ban. At the Pony! Whatever was the world coming to? *lol* Poor Strider! It is odd, though - I'm non-smoker and still hope that our politicians will get around to completely forbid smoking in inns and the like (they're still arguing about exceptions *rolls eyes*), but I *can't* imagine Strider *not* smoking at the Pony. He'll not be our Strider any more. Author Reply: You're right - perhaps I should have labelled this 'AU'!!

Well - at least he's a law-abiding Ranger and went along with the decree! And I daresay he's used to it - I can't imagine Imladris being a very pipeweed-friendly sort of place. (I can also picture the reaction of Mrs Butterbur - now forbidden to smock in the public places of Bree. Where will the traditional garments be stitched now?) Author Reply: As I see it, when Strider's in Imladris, he thinks like an elf, and doesn't smoke. When he's out and about being a Ranger, he thinks like a human - but a future King can't break the law, can he? *Grin* I debated whether the sign should say 'No Smokking', or 'No Smocking'. Perhaps the second would have been more fun!!

How perfect! Such ordinances are all too prevelant across the U.S., so it's not something terrifically unusual any more. But for Aragorn not to be able to smoke at the Prancing Pony.... Poor lad! Author Reply: The Pony just won't be the same, will it? I suppose I should label this AU! It's a new law for England, but I won't be sorry to see it.

Hehehe! We have on of those in Florida too--the whole state. No smoking in public places. The tourists react much more poorly than Strider, which only goes to show his good character. :-) Author Reply: I think Strider's used to smoking bans - I doubt he'd smoke much in Imladris. And he's been well brought up, and is a future King, so he wouldn't *think* of breaking the law!!

ROTFL! Poor Aragorn. But wait until someone tries to tell Gandalf... (We've had the smoking ban here for a while and as a non-smoker I think it's a wonderful invention :-D) Author Reply: I think it's great too. But how sad is it, that my first thought was 'what would Strider's reaction be?' I sat there grinning like a loon while I plotted this in my head.
