| Quick re-read (and re-review) before bed, since something NiRi said on Facebook made me think of this ficlet again... Just thought of something. 'The one who’d named himself “The Star of the King” gave an elaborate shrug.' "The Star of the King", eh? While 'Gil' does indeed mean 'star' in Sindarin, 'roy' isn't anywhere close to 'aran'...I wonder if he presented himself as 'Gilaran'? (Well no, that'd be 'star king'...unless the 'of the' is implied...I suppose it must be, like with 'Thorongil', perhaps, but...oh, where's Atto Fiondil when I need him. :( Well, don't answer that, we all know where. *sighs*) But anyway, what I meant to say before detouring and missing Atto again was, I wonder how exactly Gilderoy blundered his way into Middle Earth knowing Sindarin? Or is it a spell? For that matter, how do they understand English, or is something causing it to be 'translated' as Westron? Translation Convention spell, maybe? I dunno, I think too much, especially when I should be sleeping. Anyway, I was glad to reread this, even though I'm missing Atto more. *hugs Larner* Kaylee Author Reply: I suspect that Gilderoy Lockhart might well have done his best at a Translation Convention spell, and it came out garbled. "Roy" translates to "King" in OUR world, while "Gil" translates to "Star" in their world; with "de" translating to "Of" in our world, making a mishmashed translation of "Gilderoy" to "Star" (Sindarin) "of the King" (French). I just did a check of the meaning of the name on TheNameMeaning.com, and it is indicated that the name is actually of Celtic origin and means "son of the servant of the red hair." So, again we have the results of a mishmashed translation to Middle-earth languages. Heh! I had fun with it, at least. | |

| Gilroy, still so narcissistic, so oblivious, you caught those characteristics which makes him such fun instead of tediously offensive. | Oh good grief! So funny! I had to read it out loud to my sister too -- I was barely into the second paragraph and she goes, 'Is that Gilderoy Lockhart?' :-P Fantastic! Author Reply: Oh, but it is great fun to write some silly little things like so many of these are and to slip in a familiar character from a different story set. Heh! Glad to give you and your sister a good laugh! | |

Author Reply: Can you imagine how the likes of Gilderoy Lockheart could manage to offend the denizens of Middle Earth, much less how underwhelmed people would be by his truly near-squib capabilities? | Ok, Larner, I'm not sure if I've reviewed these earlier ones, so I'm rereading the whole thing, including the new one, and reviewing all the way...here I go, LOL... Gilderoy Lockhard in Middle-Earth? Valar perish the thought!!! You're already killing me here with this idea...Yeah, this gets my vote for "Not Gonna Happen"!!!! Bahaha!!!! Elves...pathetic? Wait till Arwen hears THAT...hehehe...I see changing worlds hasn't made him any more intelligent! Needless to say, you caught him perfectly! Kaylee Arafinwiel (KayleeTonksLupin in HP fandom!) Author Reply: Oh, I know you love Lupin! I enjoyed doing this one. I'd just finished writing "Go Out in Joy" and needed to do something silly to counter a good deal of the angst and pathos written into the longer tale. I know Nilmandra doesn't really approve of crossovers, but she appears to accept these little bits, at least! | |

| Hello! Found your 'Not Gonna Happens' - loved this one of that pompous twat Lockhart. I knew it was him straight off! And I can just imagine the Elves faces when he demeaned them unknowingly, priceless! I'd love to see one of Harry in ME, don't suppose that's coming up next? On this site full crossovers between Tolkien's world and those of others are not accepted, so such a story won't be posted here, but Nilmandra appears to have permitted these, which indulge only a bit, after all. | ROTFL! Just had to come back and read this one again now that I could put it in context! Yeah, I finally gave in to my own nagging curiosity and the wheedling and arguing and cajoling of a dear friend and got myself the HP books—I’m in the middle of The Order of the Phoenix now…er, maybe closer to the beginning, considering how huge it is. Can’t put it down and fight an inner battle every time I think of schoolbooks vs. just picking up the PM and continuing on, but I must admit I’m a little afraid of what this one holds later. I have the sinking feeling that Dumbledore is going to be lost…he definitely would get along well with Gandalf, wand or no wand. Lockhart, on the other hand…LOL Now that I get all the implications of this fic and know what kind of person Lockhart is, well…this is so much funnier even than it was when I first read it! And I have a feeling Legolas and the twins would be even more horrified if they knew exactly what sort of elves they were being compared to! House-elves are cute and charming and all that (well, Dobby and Winky and their Hogwarts friends are…when there are no bewitched bludgers or hovering and shattering dishes involved…I’m definitely not fond of Kreacher—fine name for him, ugh!) but there’s just no comparison to the Fair Folk! *grins* Say, wouldn’t it be interesting to see Hermione campaigning for S.P.E.W. in Middle-earth? Or the Dementors meeting the Nazgul…actually maybe that last isn’t such a brilliant idea, there’d really be trouble then, considering what the two horrors can do on their own. God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: No, no loss of Dumbledore within "The Order of the Phoenix." But do pay attention to phoenix song. There is a loss in this one, but not Dumbledore. Just finished listening to the Jim Dale reading of "The Deathly Hallows." It was my second reading of the book, and he does as marvelous a job of reading it as he did the others. Am now working once more on Ingles's reading of "The Two Towers." At least the commercial readings have some of the best doing it. In the last book you'll even come to love Kreacher, believe me; and it's in the last book the fact the author is a committed Christian and that she's been building up all along to such a work as to stand alongside those of Tolkien and Lewis and some of the others is made plain. So glad you find the jokes and imagery of this one more clear now that you've seen Lockhart in all his fading glory! And you'll see him briefly in Order as well, you'll find. I'd just finished listening to Chamber of Secrets again as I drove to my friend's place and back when I wrote this one. Hope you can find time to read "A Maid Waiting"--I think you'll enjoy it. It's one of my shorter ones, thank heavens. Good to see you able to sneak away at least some from school work. | |

Author Reply: Yes--that would be something to see, wouldn't it--Gilderoy Lockheart assuming all will welcome him on the basis of his own self-promotion and his five-time winner of the Witch Weekly Most Charming Smile Award! | LOL Bravo! Though I do think it might be entertaining for Aragorn and the court to see some of the photos that move, especially the one in the hair curlers! Seriously, this was pure magic!
