Heh. Serves Pippin right!

Before reading your fics, I hadn't really thought that much about the troll-business, but I think you are right: Pippin must have become quite a celebrity for it, so it's only fitting that he is remembered in poetry.

Nienor

Author Reply: LOL, and *such* poetry!

Thanks!

Whatever strange review you just got, sorry-I don't know what just happened, but my computer posted it without my hitting the button. Technology can be so weird.

Now to the real review. LOL! I just love it! They'll all be drunk pretty soon, and I'll bet they all have hangovers in the morning. But what a game! I'll have to teach that one to my siblings for long car rides!

'There once was a gardener named Sam, Sometimes he was sweet as a lamb,
But when Shelob did spring, He drew out Frodo's Sting, And skewered her, neat as a ham.'

LOL Good one, Merry!

'There once was a hobbit
named Frodo, Who looked to be gone like a dodo, His cousins all thinked He might get extinct, While carrying his heavy Load - oh!'

Yeah, talk about stretching words! :)

There once was an elf name of Legolas, Who accused
a grubby Ranger of being reck-a-less, While fighting an orc, the Ranger said "snork", "At least it's the orc going leg-a-less."

Snork? LOL!

Ignoring the storm warnings, irrepressible Pippin continued, 'There was an old dwarf name of Gimli, In Moria could see only dimly... He took a long stroll,
With an ugly cave troll, And now...'

Beregond found himself holding his breath. '...minces along very primly!' Pippin finished in triumph.

'Peregrin Took, you...' Gimli roared as he started to rise from the table, only to be slammed back down to his seat by the unexpectedly strong arm of the
King, whilst a mug of ale appeared magically before him.

*laughing hysterically* Oh, that is great! It's no wonder they wanted another chapter! :)

I enjoyed this very much, and you are so clever with rhymes!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: My "touch pad" does that to me sometimes, if I should brush a thumb across it while typing.

Thanks for "hitting the high points"!

So glad you enjoyed this, especially knowing you're a poet yourself!

I was browsing your archive Lindelea and reading and re-reading some of my favourite stories when I came across this second chapter. It is now midnight and I have another early start but how do I sleep for giggling too much? Great stuff but what about Aragorn's contribution? I'm no writer - just an avid reader of many things Tolkein - and occasional reviewer, but even I was trying my hand at finishing your final limerick!
There was a young halfling named Pippin
who under a troll he was slippin'
thought this was his grave
'tho a friend did him save
by rocking and rolling and rippin'

You don't have to comment as I know it is awful! But fun!

Author Reply: Well, how d'ye! (that's how they used to spell "howdy", isn't it a kick?)

Glad you joined the game! Limericks lend themselves to a certain charming awfulness, but actually, I think tween Pippin would squint one eye, assume a far away look, and say critically, "That wasn't bad. Y'know, with a little practice you could do quite well at 'Frogs'."

And I thought it was cute!

Thanks!

Beware of the author Lindelea
With limericks she’ll try to regale ya
When she says “Just one more…”
Edge your way out the door
And hop the next bus to Visalia!

I hope you know I’m kidding! I also hope I’m pronouncing “Lindelea” correctly; otherwise this fails miserably…
I’m quite fond of limericks, actually, and thought this was hilarious…you may have the dubious distinction of writing the only fanfic featuring a limerick-spouting Elf! (Now just watch, it’ll turn out there are about 50 others…!) And I’m quite sure that yours is the ONLY story in which an Elf says “Dagnobbit”!
I was interested to see, among all the silliness, such serious observations as this one: “The more time he spent with mortals, the more they fascinated him with their urgent grasping at life and experience.” And the lyrical turn of phrase that crops up here and there: “his heart turned ever homewards.” You do have a lovely way with words!

This goofy fic is actually a pretty good primer on how to write a limerick.
Hey, how about sponsoring a LOTR limerick challenge…?

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Visalia is a hick town in Northern California.

Author Reply: Thanks, Kathy. Glad you enjoyed it! And as you know from the story, stretching words to make them fit the rhymes is allowable.

There's at least one other story I heard of after posting this one, that used limericks, but I can't remember any more what it was or who wrote it.

I like mixing seriousness with silliness. Somehow they add spice to each other, when carefully done and mixed in the right proportions.

And good thing you clarified that geographical point. I was thinking Vidalia, Georgia for some reason. But then I noticed the "s".

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note!

LOL! This is genius! I love seeing them all together having fun like this - and the way the rest of them turn the tables on Pip is just brilliant!

Bits I liked in particular:

'[Legolas] was slow to drink his own ale, preferring instead to drink deeply of his surroundings.' - very nicely expressed.

' "Snork?" said Pippin.
"It's allowable," Sam argued. "I heard Strider snork just now, as a matter of fact, whilst he was choking on his ale." ' - ROFL! Very cool!

I really enjoyed this.

Adorable, absolutely adorable. Poor Pip, but he did deserve it.

Author Reply: Ah, thank you for the review. I was cruising this evening, avoiding writing, and ran across your feedback. You're right, he did deserve it!

Alas, that I have only just discovered this short quip! I truly loved the rhymes and rhythms, to say nothing of the general embarassment: truly a must when drinks are involved, it seems! Congratulations on this wonderful short. I do hope it will continue!
All the best.

LOL! This could go on all night! One could only imagine the embarrasment of Pippin at when they're still going at it at 2 o'clock in the morning! Heehee. Very humerous. Maybe I should play frogs at the next family gathering. I'm fairly good at impromptu rhyming. Cheers!

Author Reply: I imagine your family might have fun. I know we did, when we came up with this game at summer camp, o so many years ago...
