I love the way Chalcedony is using her Tookish gifts to help sort all of this out. You have to watch the green-eyed Tooks. LOL Oh, what a cliff-hanger with a ghost appearing in the middle of the trial! Now I am very, very glad that I have another chapter to read! Off to do just that right now! Author Reply: Hehehe, yes, you aren't left hanging for long :-) I'm glad you like Chalcedony! Thank you GW :-)

A female? Well - sexism in the Shire is still rife, then! Would be, I suppose, with the Secretaries involved. (Right collection of Sir Humphrey Applebys, they are.) Longo is shouting enough to be pretty desperate - and his scheme seemed to be falling apart even before the arrival of the ghost. Of Travellers Past. But I don't think he'll get away with anything now! Author Reply: Well, Tolkien did say things were mostly male oriented when it came to positions of authority in the Shire, siting Laura Baggins and Lalia Took as exceptions. I think exceptions would be made occasionally but I do think the males wielded the official power. It wasn't the twentieth century, and if you think of Middle-earth as a whole, a lack of women in power is a frequent complaint leveled at the Professor. No, Longo's goose is cooked. Thank you so much for raising an interesting point, Bodkin :-)

Oh, I hope it is Frodo himself! (I do love the idea of Frodo himself speaking to what he himself wrote, after all.) Although I won't be too disappointed if it were Merry the Magnificent, who would indeed properly speak before those gathered in Brandy Hall, who after all read the original Red Book as well as living what was written therein. Now, THIS is one witness Longo would desperately NOT wish to speak that day, and yet who has every right, as well as the full duty, to do so. Author Reply: Hi Larner, You'll soon see who it is :-) I'm posting the next chapter today! Either way, you're right, this isn't making Longo very happy at all! Thank you :-)

My, my! This one was *filled* with cliffies, lol. Not really, but I'm waiting on pins and needles for either Athelas or Marjy to produce the item that will save the day. I say that, but I'm only guessing. Longo Caskbury actually had the audacity to try and poison the Master? That old boy needs a healthy slice of humble pie, and I think Chalcedony and the Traitors are just the hobbits to do it. :-) Now...which hobbit is appearing this time? ;-) Can't wait to see. :-) PF Author Reply: Hehehe! I am a meany. Not really poison, just so he has to spend time somewhere other than the trial ;-) Longo will be getting his due, I promise. I won't make you wait too long to find out who materialized. Thank you so much, PippinFan, m'dear!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the course things are taking now, and about Chalcedony's very "tookish" way to make sure that Longo behaves for the rest of the trial (that has finally become a real trial after the sad travesty of the forenoon...) And what did that villain give to the master? Stirred some castor oil under his luncheon? And finally you go and let one of the ghosts appear - and now I sit here with this cliffhanger, waiting anxiously to find out who it is. *deep sigh* What a marvelous tale. Brava! Cúthalion Author Reply: Thank you, Cuthalion! Readers enjoying a story is what it's all about. I'm glad you have enjoyed this one. Macimas was given something of the sort, yes. Poor hobbit. But he's doing the best he can :-) You'll know soon!

A voice spoke softly in that momentary gap between the ringing of the bell and the Master speaking. A soft voice that somehow seemed to fill the room. Everyone looked about to see who had spoken. Gasps were heard coming from those hobbits at the front of the room. A couple of hobbitesses swooned. The figure of a hobbit had slowly materialized on the dais beside Jebbin Brandybuck. There wasn’t a hobbit present who could see the dais that doubted for a moment that a ghost now stood beside the accused. Longo Caskbury stood there, gaping. :O :O :O OMG OMG OMG!! Who who... WHO IS IT!?!? :::bounces excitedly::: OMG MORE MORE MORE!! I'm coming unglued here, woman! And the Mistress and her eyes... Longo's a deadhobbit. :D :D :D SQUEEEEE!!! (but tell us how you REALLY feel, Dayna...?) :) LOL Author Reply: I'm sorry you didn't like this chapter, Daynawayna . . . LOL!! The next chapter is written. A few more read-throughs and it'll be posted. You don't have long to wait to know who has shown up :-) Thank you for your enthusiasm, Daynawayna :-)

*grin* I am *SO* glad one of the ghosts gets to show up! Wonder which one? Probably Merry, I'm guessing, since his presence would be most impressive at Brandy Hall. I don't feel sorry a bit for Caskbury--he's getting just what he deserves. I have a hunch about that paper the lasses found. I do feel sorry for Macimas--just what *did* his sorry secretary dose him with? I'm guessing a purgative or emetic of some sort? Author Reply: You guess about poor Macimas is right, though I'm not saying which; I'll leave the poor hobbit some dignity. Those papers *are* important indeed. . . Thank you, Dreamflower

“Do I have your word that you will cease these outbursts, Longo Caskbury?” Her voice seemed to echo in his head. He thought he could see the sharp lights of stars swirling in her eyes. Ooooh, what a powerful and subtle effect. Yay, the ghosts have arrived! How thrilling, Pearl. Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound :-) Yes, we have ghosts here! hehehe
