| Thank goodness Macimas seems to have come out of his blur to start behaving like a true Brandybuck. And Longo - now recognised - seems to have lost his power to bemuse his listeners and has become a blusterer. A nasty blusterer, too! Poor Delphinia! I'm glad Rollo came round - although it's easy enough to turn your back on a plan that seems to have fallen apart. Mad seems to be a logical judgement. | Now that was a much better out come. This trial made up for the last one. Bravo! And now I wonder what will happen. I guess I'll just have to wait won't I? This has been a very magical story so far. Author Reply: Thank you, GW :-) Yes, a real trial, not a farce. | I am proud of those present, that they failed to overwhelmingly condemn Longo. Very much a descendant of both Lotho and Ted, I fear. And love Delphinia and have compassion for Rollo. As for poor Jebiamac--poor, confused ghostling that he was. And I'm still proud of our four for standing by quietly, letting the living deal with the present. Why do we need such reawakenings in order to appreciate things rightly? Author Reply: Hi Larner :-) I am too. Yes, he is. Thank you, I do too. LOL! Yes, it took him a bit to sort things out. | Well, at least the Master and I have agreed on one thing: that Longo Caskbury is CRACKED. Yes, Tollo *should* be placed in the same room as his father! The Shire/Buckland would never know he's missing. I hope that arse gets his due, if for nothing else, for beating his little daughter. Well, dear friend, as I've said all along, you have a lovely gift. Most of us readers had the Master pegged as a spineless, witless, good-for-nothing arse. I just came from BS so I can't use language *too* strong (at least until tomorrow morning when I get to work!). Now you have us all eating out of the palm of your hand - now viewing him as a hobbit who's recovered his wits and backbone (and some other male body parts). I see that as the talent of an excellent writer. :-) Brilliant story, brilliant author. :-) I'm looking forward the the next chapter! | :O this is me, speechless again! OK, except for a SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! And more WOW's! and AMAZING's! Good God Pearl, where does it come from?!?! this is sooooo awesome! I love that Jeb showed up! And the ever-haughty Longo... interesting that HE is really "old pompous" and not the Master. You've woven (is that a word?) a wonderful web here, my dear, and I can't wait to find out how it all plays out. I'm guessing that the Thain will be much more himself when he is met by his sister and the others when they go see about Tollo.... I wonder if the Mistress will speak within earshot of the man? :::giggles wickedly:: Gawd I love it!!!!!!! Author Reply: Speechless again! | Well, this is an eye-opener, and no mistake, as Sam would have said. *grin* I do like the way Macimas has suddenly grown a backbone; clearly there was a bit more than just the secretary's personal charm and persuasion at work. I'm wondering how Lotho's descendants had maintained their power over the years. I have some very odd ideas... This has been so fun to get home to. Author Reply: Again, I'm glad to give you a fun homecoming :-) I fear the suddenness of Macimas' change of heart is a bit of a stretch, but it's how it seemed to want to happen. | Dear Pearl, There I thought I had only missed one chapter, or two. But actually it were four ;-) Oh dear! How could that happen? I'm still fascinated with this story and satisfied by its progress! It began with Chalcedony's and her friends arrival at Brandy Hall. And like an avalanche their progress grew faster and stronger. When that unnamed ghost appeared, I thought "Frodo!". Don't ask me why, it was just a feeling. (And I have no proof for it!) But I would never have thought that the Caskburys and Grittisons are descendants of Lotho Sackville-Baggins! It's absolutely believable and makes perfect sense. Longo is definitely no better than his ancestor. No one should treat his daughter like that! But his son is different, and so I found Macimas' decision was right, and wise. For the first time in his life he is able to make his own decisions - and he's very good at it. I'd missed you, I'm glad you're back :-) I'm so glad the ancestry of the Caskburys and Grittisons surprised you :-) I'm also very glad that, "It's absolutely believable and makes perfect sense." That is usually what I try for in my stories. Longo is horrid. Every bit as horrid as Lotho. I felt that since Rollo hadn't actually begun his time of "ruling" a Master of Buckland that the rot would not have gone as deep yet. That and I felt he loved his sister and the shock of that hit hard. I just didn't have the heart to let Macimas stay ruined. | |

| My dear, that was shocking... and most shocking of all was how that sad travesty of a father treated his children. What he spat at his daughter was far more disturbing than the appearance of a dozen ghosts. Cúthalion Author Reply: Thank you, Cuthalion. I had begun to write this chapter and had no idea what would happen to make Longo lose his grip. Delphinia stepped out of the crowd and took care of him for me. It seems that eventually all the male descendants of Lotho and Ted took on their nastiest traits. I'm think it was as they started using the power they had obtained - power corrupts. | |

| I'm glad not all the Caskbury's are irredeemable - poor Delphinia and Rollo. The truth is well and truly out and the Caskbury/Grittison reign is at an end. Author Reply: Hi, Bob's Your Uncle! I always feel if Tolkien could have Lobeila Sackville-Baggins repent of her ways, then I should also have mercy :-) Yes, they have seen the end of their rule.
