Poor old Bombur, lol. His friends losing thier grip on the rope was a little spine-chilling. That was a lovely filler for The Hobbit. PF Author Reply: Well, since we *knew* he'd make it, I had to put in a *little* suspense! I wish more people wrote gap-fillers for The Hobbit!

*snerk* Poor Bombur! I love all his thoughts as he's being hulled up the mountain cliff, and I'm glad his final wish will come true. :D Author Reply: Yes, poor fellow! But I am sure that he was glad to do just that!

Hmmm, I seemed to have missed this one in your lj, so I thought I would just review it here. This was excellent. Poor Bombur, he's going to be black and blue by the time he gets to the top, but you did a wonderful job taking the few statements made about his excruciating ascent and making it into an extremely credible story from his viewpoint. LOL... figures he'd worry about the supplies before himself! If he makes it up, he wants to be sure there'll be enough! hee! Author Reply: Yes, he'll be banged and bruised--but at least he won't be a dragon's appetizer! I'm glad you thought it seemed credible--I'm sure he would have be scared to death. Well, there is that--and that if the supplies went up, he could postpone having to go up himself. But fortunately for Bombur, Thorin had his priorities straight!

Poor Bombur! What a good interpretation of the title! Mind you, I feel sorry for those on the other end of the rope - dragging Bombur up a cliff can't have been a picnic. But at least they escaped the dragon's wrath. For now. Author Reply: Yes, poor Bombur! But you are quite right, of course! You'll notice that they got Bofur to the top a lot more quickly, LOL! And they are left, more or less, safe in the tunnels, thanks to the excellent Burglar Baggins! For now.

Oh, poor Bombur! I think this is the first fanfic I've read from his POV. Aw, the profession of a toymaker suits him somehow. :) God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Well, there really is precious little fic from The Hobbit, so that would not surprise me! I'm glad you think he'd make a good toymaker--I used that in my contribution to Gayalondiel's group story "Yuletide Tales"; it just seemed to me that it would suit him for some reason.

Oh, how wonderful a description of Bombur's ascent! It sounds so much as if it could have been told by the Master himself! Excellent! Author Reply: Wow! *blushes* Thank you! That's high praise indeed!

You were right. It was just the perfect prompt. Author Reply: Yes, it just *had* to be from The Hobbit! And all that about "exertions" naturally made me think of poor Bombur, who was so out of shape, poor thing, LOL!

So happy that Bombur was saved! Is it canon that he was a toymaker? If not, you have invented the perfect profession for him: nice and sedentary, and not so demanding of great physical exertion. And working on small toys leaves plenty of room on the workbench for lots and lots of munchies. Author Reply: So am I! Of course, he would be, as it was canon--but I'll bet he doubted it himself several times on the way up! No, that's my own personal fanon take on him--I've used it once, in my contribution to Gayalondiel's group story "Yuletide Tales". But, yes, I used exactly that reasoning in picking such an occupation for him.

Hooray for the burglar! *hugs Bilbo* Good one! Yours, Frodo Baggins Author Reply: Yes, Bilbo saved the day for them all several times over, but Bombur and Bofur especially!

Poor dear Bombur! You've done a wonderful job of filling in the holes! Author Reply: Yes, poor thing! I'm glad you liked it!
