Yes, a lovely lesson indeed, as well as a useful skill for anyone to know.

One correction--his interest was piqued, not peaked. One of the more common homonym mistakes.

Author Reply: Oik, yeah, I type too fast for my own good. Thanks for pointing that out!

Needless to say, as a calligrapher, I loved the account of the ink making. I especially liked that Aragorn couldn't wait to try it out! LOL! Just like a proud Daddy!

And I think that the princess is going to make a wonderful tutor!

Author Reply: I found the lesson on some college site, and I'm so glad I did. I hadn't realized that ink making was so easy!

Nothing like getting the learner involved in the learning. Lateral thinking. Mind you, if Seraphine becomes a designated tutor, she might be less successful. Some of the best learning is achieved when you don't realise that you're being educated.

Author Reply: That's the rub. How to make her the official tutor without making her the official tutor, if you catch my meaning. Luckily I've found a way, I think. Thanks for this comment, it made me think quite hard about the situation!

REVIEW, PART II okaaaayyy....catapult games with her 'children' (can you say "loooonnng day with the third graders?") Oh and I had to come back and comment on the monkey named Elrohir! LOLOLOLOLOL That is simply TOO funny!

Linda

Author Reply: I was trying to think of a name for the monkey, and thought, "Well, why not Elrohir? It's funny." I'm glad you like it!

Love it! Love it! LOVE IT! Being a teacher myself, I think the princess has exactly the right idea of how to reach the Prince, keep him entertained AND learning - all at the same time! She is very wise...and Aragorn and Arwen are wise to recognize the worth of encouraging the friendship (and perhaps gaining a new tutor for their son!) Loved Arwen and the catapult games she played with her daughter...and the descriptions of the Princess (as well as the detailed ink making lesson) were wonderful! Can't wait for the tea party with the Queen! :-)

Linda

Author Reply: Well, if I can appeal to teachers I'm on the right track. I actually got the teaching philosophy from my nieces and nephews, who hate school but love it when I show them new things.

The ink is actually made just like that: mash a bunch of berry juice into a jar, add salt and vinegar, and voila! There you go. :)
