| momma's know these things. sweet and adorable. i like gaffer and hamson struggling to stay awake on the couch waiting to get to see the baby. Author Reply: Bell would have thought the same of all her children, but if she feels it especially strongly for Sam, it is for good reason, as we know. Hamson feels himself responsible for this bairn, as he had to stay with his mother while Hamfast fetched the healer. He would want to be awake to greet his new baby brother. :0) | |

| Ahh! Sweet little Sam. Keen to arrive in the world in time to enjoy the spring. But not making too much fuss about it! Author Reply: The gardener in Sam just couldn't wait, but he didn't want to inconvenience anyone (especially his mother!) too much by his early arrival. | Thank you so much for this. I love stories about Sam's family. He's such a loving and giving hobbit. He must have learned the qualities from his family, so it's always a treat to read stories that explore the dynamics of that family. This one celebrating his birth is absolutely lovely. It's interesting to think that his mother would know at once that he would be important. I also like Bell's explanation for his name. I've wondered why anyone would name a child "Half wise" or "Half Wit." It's always a pleasure to visit the Gamgee home. Author Reply: I always enjoy getting to see Sam surrounded by his family and watch the way they interact. Even when they're annoying each other (which is admittedly rare) they are loving towards each other. Well, I think Bell, like all mothers, thinks that all her children are special. But in this case, she had an extra little hint and she knows that he will do great things over the course of his life. Bell would want to keep him as grounded and humble as she could, knowing what his future held, and his name was one way of doing that. Thanks for reading! | Awww! This is so sweet! Only such an experienced mother as Bell could be so calm, I think, when her baby came early. And I just love her words to Sam: “Don’t you listen to them, Sammy. You are going to be important some day and don’t you go forgetting it.” So like her! I wanted to do something for Sam's birthday, but things kept coming up...thank you for this, I love it! God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Bell was probably even relieved that Sam was early! I doubt she wanted to go through the experience of carrying a baby two weeks past term again! Bell is a very loving mother, and that shows in the way Sam is so protective and loyal in his friendships. Thanks for the review! | |

| "What's crying?" (I loved that!) This is such a sweet little story; I think it's one that will stick with me now when I think of Sam. I so like that his mother knew how special he was and would be, since she wasn't going to be there to see it later. And I liked meeting Sam's elusive older brothers, and seeing his Gaffer as a younger man, so fond of his wife and children. Quite an enchanting experience! Author Reply: Well, it's been some time since May has cried like that, so it's only natural Daisy would be wondering what all the racket was about, especially since she left May asleep in bed. ;) Halfred and Hamson are featured in a couple of other stories in this series, and I do have plans for them for later stories. It's just a matter of finding the time to write those stories. Too many plot bunnies, too little time. ;) The Gaffer has always been a big softie at heart and we really get to see him in that capacity here, before the loss of Bell. | This is lovely. Bell knew her Sam would be special. I loved the childrens' reactions to the new brother. Author Reply: Thank you Mews! Bell is a very special hobbit in her own right and Sam has so many of her traits, it's really no surprise that Sam would be special also. She would have been so proud had she been there to see him home from the Quest. The Gamgee children would have been very excited about having a new baby brother or sister. I'm sure the lads are quite pleased that they now outnumber the lasses! Though they would have been more pleased had Sam waited until they were awake to be born. ;) Thanks for reviewing! | |
