Hey Marnie. Glad I'm not in the same room when these two great Lords of power met. Mind you it would have being interesting. Galthil

Very sad but somehow triumphant and reaffirming. Looking backwards and forwards at the same time. Choices and yesteryear... Author Reply: Many thanks, eRose! Yes, it's one of the sad things about the elves, isn't it - they may lose everything they ever cared for, but they have to go on because they don't have a way out. Thanks for the review!

Interesting point of view and a nice vignette. Would Glorfindle stay behind? I don't know, but I cannot ever see him being idle. *g* Nor can I see Glorfindel ever wanting to take up ruling again. And really, why would they need it? You would think enlightened Elves would be past that, wouldn't you? :) It's good that Celeborn found a purpose in taking on Imladris, though I imagine a far quieter one, more suited to his senses. A last hurrah of sorts before he and Thranduil *finally* let Cirdan sail West with those last Elves.

I loved it! The mental cloak was a fabulous image, and the fading of Imladris struck just the right melancholy note. Go, Glorfindel! Head out after those twins!

Okay....dont know what thesaurus you're using these days, but if 'urea' is a synonym of 'good', then I think that comment was authorized. :) You've nothing to fear, Marnie....believe me, there's a Balrog guarding my Deep Dark Pit of Despair (which I pay a visit to ever so often), and you're not even allowed entry. All genuinely amazing authors arent. :) This was what a vignette should be - short, sweet and so complete. I think I mentioned the last point in my other review as well. Do continue with these little gems....but I'm still lobbying for a chapter of either of the longer stories. :) Sphinx

No time for a long review, alas - but this story is great! What have we got here? The Noldor departing, leaving Rivendell in obvious neglect and disarray... and Celeborn arriving to reclaim lordship and getting things into proper order again. ;-) That was nicely done, and I liked the interaction between Glorfindel and Celeborn - especially that their "battle" is fought in civilty and polite conversation, only little gestures, expressions and undertones betraying the clash of cultures, temperaments and all. Glorfindel's thoughts were very well written and beautiful... I liked the idea of his mental caressing his ceremonial cloak (that, with his combination of gold/yellow and blue reminded me of just the wrong thing... do you remember that cloak that Guy of Gisburne sometimes wears in RoS? I know that is the *wrong* image, but I suddenly did have the idea of a slightly Gisburne-like Glorfindel and had to fight my naughty mind in order *not* to imagine a sheriff-like Turgon to match him). Well... Sorry about the aberration above - I really liked the story. You do excel at 4th-age stories - and I still love your portrayal of Celeborn! :-) Masterfully done once again!

Very nice vignette; it has a quiet, contemplative feel to it that I like. BTW - still looking for updates to The Battle of the Golden Wood.

OMG, what a delightful, tightly-woven, wonderful piece of work!!! I adore this line: ' "Like your lady," he said, not without deserved cruelty, "I have learned that there are more important things than power.' Oooh, that's lovely... rolls well around the tongue. Do you know how delightful your fics are to read aloud? :-) VERY nicely done, canonical in feel, and you handle both Glorfindel and Celeborn with a deft and learned hand. I really, really like this fic!! Thank you!!!

Do you know, I was merrily reading along, and came to the passage where it says 'Would not Glorfindel himself be free to be Champion of the line of Turgon in Middle Earth - to set himself whole heartedly to the task of ridding all foulness from the world of Arwen's children?' - and I cried? I love that these two mighty elf lords work together, I love that I think they both stayed, Glorfindel for sure, for Elrond's children; and I think I cried at the thought of Arwen's children - that what is ending for the elves is only a begining for Arwen and Aragorn. Arwen is having children - new life - when all of her old life is fading away. Not sure why that touched me like this, but it did.

I was blown away by this picture of Glorfindel. In a very few words, you have shown us the springs of all of his long life, or perhaps I should say both of his lives. We see him in Gondolin, the Halls of Mandos, and here in withering Rivendell. You work with details that bring it all to vivid life. THIS is what vignettes should look like.
