This is very nice - I hadn't remembered the order of who ws where during that difficult journey... Author Reply: When I saw the prompt, and remembered that Elldan was at the back with one of the torches, it seemed obvious. I had to check the details, though.

Thus boosting each other's confidence. Definitely the way forward in such an unappealing place. Author Reply: *Grr!* This is another review alert I never got!! I think they must both have felt the presence of the Dead clustering so close behind. Who wouldn't feel uneasy? It's not a time to walk alone.

I am really enjoying these strictly canon drabbles you have done the last few times. You have been picking out some of my favorite parts of the books. The company's reaction to the Path of the Dead is another thing that I always loved re-reading and I like the part of it that you singled out here. Indeed, a fascinating pairing. I'd like to see this expanded a bit to allow getting even deeper into both their heads. Well done! Author Reply: I like canon moments that still leave room for exploration. Tolkien tells us that Legolas was the only one who did not fear the Dead - so what did the others think about the Dead following them? This pairing of Elladan and Gimli has intrigued me - I like to write different characters.

Ah, lovely. Shouldn't be spending time reading, at the moment, but I have a weakness for pure canon. Author Reply: I'm glad I could distract you :>)

I liked this. For some reason I am intrigued by the idea that Elladan has a bit of the frights in the Paths of the Dead and he handles it so well by asking Gimli to walk with him. Nicely done, as always. Author Reply: Tolkien said that Legolas was the only one not to fear the Dead. Elladan, at the rear with the Dead following behind him, *must* have got the creeps. (And I wonder where Elrohir was? Tolkien doesn't say.)

Beautiful and atmospheric! I imagine it was just that way! Author Reply: Tolkien tells us that they all felt the dread (except Legolas) - so why not Elladan?

At the rear, if not quite--and a wonderful pairing it is. It works very well indeed. Author Reply: I like to explore canon moments like this, and wondered what Elladan would make of Gimli creeping along behind him. Thank you!
