| If only the stones could talk they could tell some amazing tales ! Author Reply: Yes, those stones have stood there for several thousand years and were brought there perhaps during the Dark Years. And they have seen the coming and going of several peoples and nations and powers. Yes, I agree--what tales they might tell! Thanks for the response. | |

| Glad to know Barti didn’t allow Begonia to go on like this any longer – her anger is understandable, but her behaviour inacceptable. Hm ... I wonder what Boboli and his family found in the smial? Probably something they’ve dugged up? Your description of the stone markers reminded me so much of Stonehenge and other similar places, much more than the Barrow-downs. Ah, *finally* the penny has dropped! After knowing already who’s Lord Iorhael, now Barti realised the identity of Lord Perhael. And even better, Persivo understood just who are the Ringbearers :-))) As the children know probably a bit more about the whole story than their father, I’m not surprised it was Persivo who figured it out in the end, not Barti. Poor lad, that was quite the shock! “And how are we supposed to honor them when we’re not even supposed to know what it is they’ve done?” Barti raged. *sigh* Barti is *so* right! I still hope they will find a way to tell others ... Author Reply: Barti's not going to allow his youngest daughter to be abused by his eldest daughter; there's a need to give Begonia time to get control of herself. They'll discuss what was found in the next chapter; but right now Barti and Persi are beginning to first appreciate what was done by their own folk, although I suspect Persivo appreciates it better than his father does. I doubt Barti as yet realizes what it all means. I've seen so many standing stones here and there throughout England; and we have our own equivalents of stone circles such as Stonehenge across North America, most of them at much the same latitude as Stonehenge itself, mostly across southern Canada; and as with Stonehenge itself they appear to be a combination of observatory, ritual center, and burial grounds for spiritual leaders. In his one poem Tolkien has Bilbo singing of standing stones and secret gates, indicating that such items were not uncommon within the Shire itself; which is why I have indicated a wall of Mirucar's palace yet stands in the back gardens of Brandy Hall--the history of these places manage to shine through. It's part of why I love visiting Europe and England--seeing history concentrated in one spot. And Barti is definitely right regarding Frodo's unwillingness to let the Shire itself know what's happening. | |

| Children! Whether thet are your own or only borrowed can be the most exasperating of creatures. My mum used to say, 'I love you dearly but I don't like you very much at the moment!' And so they meet at the holding and what is the first thing that happens? Food! Mmmmm.... I want to be a hobbit. Great question about learning. Fascinating boundry markers. I have always like reading about theories to do with things like Stonehenge. And I shivered at the thought of Aragorn braving the barrow downs. But it does seem logical that he would have met Tom. Aunt Dora might have reacted in the same way about the idea of Aragorn marrying his cousin. And the thought of Elros still 'knocking about' just made me giggle. “And how are we supposed to honor them when we’re not even supposed to know what it is they’ve done?” Barti raged. And that is a key of a question! I can understand Barti raging about it by this time. And at last the penny (or other coin of the realm,) drops for Persivo. We have enjoyed how you have built up to this. Chaos here. My busiest time of the year and my landlord decides to paint my little room so I am trying to sleep with no curtains and protect my laptop from dust and paint! And I can't even come home to put my feet up in between working in the morning and having an evening meeting. One day and I am already grumpy!! Author Reply: Strider told the Hobbits he'd seen them taking leave of Bombadil, so I agree--he must have met Tom at some time in his life, either with Gandalf or on his own. And as I've already indicated Aragorn had tried himself against the Barrow-downs it made sense Faradir would be aware of it. The computer analyses done of the relationship of various plinths or triptychs in Stonehenge to the rising and setting of various celestial bodies and even constellations does appear to indicate that among other things the megalithic structure served as an observatory and celestial calendar of sorts; it made sense to me that the stone circle in which the Hobbits had slept had served the same purpose, and even the standing stones that have been used by the Dunedain to serve as boundary markers must have had some similar purpose. Yes, Aunt Dora would be shocked. You've given me a giggle, too, just at that thought. But with his lack of experience with Elves and Half-elven, what is poor Barti going to understand about the difference? I mean, if Elrond is still there after all this time? I agree, Barti. Now they begin to appreciate just what it is that Frodo did--Persi more than his father, at least for now. Poor lad is feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. And now your bedroom is being painted, too? Another disruption! Hope it is now better! And love to the parents and Jet! | |

| Loved Barti's question - 'is Elros still knocking around?'!! It does take him a while to absorb things, doesn't it? Persi is a clever lad - I thought he'd put two and two together before long. I hope Holby and Lister are getting along well - certainly a lot better than Lyssa and her sister! Author Reply: Yes, in many ways Barti's rather thick--but all this IS far beyond his experience to date. And Persivo is far more intelligent than his dad. Holby and Lyster are probably getting on fine now. Lyssa and Begonia probably will be reconciled soon enough. But folks know now. | |

| I *knew* Persivo would be the first to figure it all out!! And now Bartolo also knows. But what will he do with his knowledge? He can't tell anyone! By the way, Arwen is Aragorn's first cousin, 63 times removed. Someone figured that out for me for one of my own fics! Author Reply: Yes, Persivo is the first to understand, and now none of them can tell anyone! And thanks--I figured that one once, but had forgotten how many times removed it was. Arwen has seen so many of those removals go through her father's house, also. Thanks again, Dreamflower. | |
