Strider heaved a sigh of exasperation, and placed his palm over his face. This was *not* what he’d had in mind. The ridiculous hobbit was going to draw even *more* attention than his friend’s tale. He shook his head and leaned forward to watch what happened next. LOL! Love his POV. Author Reply: I think it's so fascinating to explore his POV at a time when JRRT never meant us to; it would have been a major spoiler to know what he was thinking! But really, here he was knowing Gandalf and Bilbo and all about the Ring, and he just had to have been thinking *something* like that!

Excellent! I very much enjoyed seeing this scene through Strider's eyes, and hearing his thoughts on Bilbo as he watched Frodo. This is very much how I imagine Strider at this point in the book. Really well done! Author Reply: Hey! I just now found this review! Thanks so much--we are deprived of his POV because it would have been major spoilers if we'd known what he was thinking; but it's really fun to imagine just what those thoughts would have been!

Here from the LotR reading group, and I have to say this is lovely, Dreamflower! Don't I wish I could have been seated at Strider's table, watching Frodo sing :D Or watching Strider, maybe...yes, Strider...*grins* ~Kaylee!!

Nice, Dreamflower! And a great complement to the current discussion in the reading group! A little Strider POV is most welcome, as it's so rare in the book...it definitely humanizes him. And very plausible that he would be mentally comparing Frodo to his old friend Bilbo! Author Reply: His POV is, I think, even more rare than Gandalf's! Of course, as I said, there's a perfectly *good* reason for it! His friendship with Gandalf and with Bilbo would be right at the front of his mind. We do learn that he is Gandalf's friend by the end of the chapter, but we have to wait until we get to Rivendell to learn that he is friends with Bilbo!

Oh, *very* good! I love seeing this scene from different perspectives! (Sam's or Pippin's would be very interesting too, I think.) You have Strider down perfectly here--I could feel what he was feeling throughout, even while sympathizing with poor Frodo's little predicament as I do every time I read the books. And a nice tie back to your story in which you describe Bilbo's inspiration, too. Very ironic. :) God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: I know it's a whole year later--but I just now saw your comment!! I'm so glad you liked his POV--we get almost none of it in the books, so it's always a gapfiller when I write it. And glad you appreciated the allusion to "Merry Old Inn"!

I like seeing Frodo through Strider's eyes--there is a wonderful sense of how arresting he is, how unusual at the core. Sam tells us so often, but we rarely get to see through Strider's eyes, and doing so makes Frodo all the more profound. Nice work! Author Reply: It is nice to see Strider's POV. JRRT so seldom deviates from the hobbit's-eye view of things, so it always makes for interesting speculation about what was on the minds of others. And I often thought it would be interesting to know what Strider thought--but that would have given away too much! And he's going to know to look out for the special in Frodo--he's Bilbo's friend and Gandalf's, and I can't imagine they haven't told him all about Frodo!

A gap filler in another's pov...I thought this was great! I do enjoy reaing another's view of things on occasion with regard to the books. LOL, Frodo's song just happens to be my favourite of all in the books -- besides Bilbo's Bath Song. Well done! Author Reply: I thought it would be fun to see just what could have been in Strider's head at a time like that!

Brilliant Dreamflower. Loved it all. Oh, and I have been going back and enjoying browsing through your early stories, yet again! Author Reply: Well, thank you very much, dear! And I hope that you are getting as much pleasure out of them the second time round! *blushes*

That was great, Dreamflower! It is very interesting to watch the events at the Prancing Pony through Strider's eyes. And I'm impressed how much he knew already and how much he figured out right there in his "corner". Only one thing he did not know: That Frodo did not put on The Ring willingly! But it *did* give him a good starting point, you are absolutely right. Author Reply: Well, we find out from Gandalf's Letter that he's been made aware of a number of things, and we find out in Rivendell that he's an old friend of Bilbo's. It seemed likely to me that Bilbo had often talked of his beloved heir to his friend the Dunadan, and Gandalf had also probably put him wise to a lot! And, no, he didn't know that. But it hardly mattered in the end whether it was deliberate or not, when it came to the results!!

Interesting to watch the events at the 'Pony' from Strider's POV, to know what he thought of the hobbits and the whole situation, to see his comparisons to Bilbo. But you know, the ficlet was too short. Now I want to see the conversation in their room and the attack and all that from Strider's POV, too, greedy reader that I am. I know you're more comfortable with writing hobbits, but still, you do a great job with writing the 'big folk', too. Author Reply: Oh good heavens! My stars! *fans self* I'd have to re-write the whole story from another POV! I don't think I'm really up to that! That said, I did have a hard time figuring out where to stop. It would have been fun to have continued right up until the revelation of Gandalf's letter, but I'm afraid that it was too much for me to tackle right now!
