Poor Pippin! He's desperate, that's obvious! And in such a state of mind one word (and action) easily gives the next. However, I think Frodo had a very good point there. “Look, Fro! I’m a cripple!” Frodo’s face darkened causing Pippin to close his mouth and pull back from the edge of the table. “So am I, Pippin,” Came the steely reply as Frodo held up his right hand. “Quit your whining, Peregrin Took.” He did not expect what came next, neither did Pippin, I'd say. But it happened anyway, and both hobbits felt sorry for what they did. That's so typical! The scene with Shadowfax was wonderful! But Pippin's "solution"? Well, if it had been a twelve-year-old who had come up with that plan, I would have accepted it. But Pippin is nearly an adult. He should know better! On the other hand: he's desperate! I only hope his manipulation doesn't lead to some *new* side effects. And I'm right glad that Dreamflower mentioned Elrod. I had nearly forgotten that he's already on his way. Maybe he can help! Thank you both for this great chapter! Author Reply: You are most welcome, Andrea! Pippin is an adult, but one that is definitely not himself. He might sometimes play the fool, but our usual Pippin wouldn't go this far. Frodo did have a good response, even though things went very badly from there. Yes - Elrond is coming . . . Thank you so much :-)

Poor Pippin! (I seem to be saying that a lot in this story!) His "solution" here reminds me a lot of "Tea and Tonic", the PippinHealer's story--except he is old enough here to know better. But I think his reaction actually is part of the side effects themselves. This is so difficult! But Elrond will be there soon, and perhaps, even if the Elves have no cure, he might know of some medicine that will at least alleviate the symptoms without so many side-effects... Author Reply: :-) You and everyone else - including Golden and me. Yes, it is in large part the medicine "talking". He's being even less cautious than usual. Interesting that you'd mention Elrond . . . Thanks so very much, Dreamflower :-)

Aghhh! Poor little love! One of the hardest things about chronic illness is finding the right medicines, and often, to find those, you have to try a lot of them that don't work and/or make you feel like you'd rather die than live having to take them. You need a lot of hope and somebody to distract you who won't play the games. I can see things are going to get worse before they get better; this is such a painful story--but that just shows you're doing a fabulous job! Looking forward (well, you know what I mean) to more! Author Reply: "this is such a painful story--but that just shows you're doing a fabulous job!" Thank you, elanor! I (more than Golden) really needed to hear that. I'm having a real challenge writing this and know it's hard to read, so thank very much :-) We're condensing the process, by from what I've been reading, it is a long and often frustrating business.

Wow...poor lad. It's not easy for those around him, either. I know that this ia a "normal" reaction when taking new medicines for serious illnesses....but I do hope Pippin's misery doesn't last long. Poor little guy. Keep up the good work, ladies. :-) PF Author Reply: Well . . . We're doing our best :-) We're combining stuff but hopefully we aren't too off base. Thank you so much, PF!

Poor, poor lad. And now he'll be taking basically a placebo. Interesting to see if he's managed through cutting down the amount of real herbs to actually do something productive. Author Reply: Hi Larner :-) He's playing with things best left alone, that's for certain. Thank you for staying with us!

"Pippin, are you crazy?!" I just feel terrible for him, but what he is doing is one of the stupidest things he's ever done. Yes, he feels awful while he's on the medicine, but he's going to have a lot worse problems without it. Unless they catch on to what he's done, he likely to embarrassed horribly at the wedding. The moment with Shadowfax was great. That horse is just too perceptive. Once again great job. Author Reply: Thank you, Garnet :-) Trouble indeed lurks on the horizon, and you know what's coming I'm sure. Yes, the poor lad is crazy, but doesn't know it yet.

Oh Pearl, I'm afraid this is all too much for me. *sob* Poor Pippin. Author Reply: I'm sorry, my dear shirebound :-( If this means you're not able to read on, I can understand. I will say that chapters 15, 16 and 17 will be the worst of it and hopefully you'll be alright after those. Golden and I wanted to deal with some of the tougher aspects of epilepsy and so we are bringing things together that might not normally happen together. Although I will say that my reading has shown me it is a condition with hundreds of variables and is therefore hard to pin down what is the *usual* or *normative* symptoms.
