Somebody seems to have snatched a hobbit. This will not do, the fellowship is suppose to have four hobbits, not three and a wet one running out of air. Hopefully Frodo does not have to hold his breath much longer.

*squirms* Oh, that's a horrible cliff-hanger! Where are they going? Why are they packing up? Who's got Frodo? Is it really Gollum? Somehow I doubt it. Do Gandalf and Aragorn know what/who it is? When are they going to find him?! Anxiously awaiting another chapter... God bless, Galadriel

I agree with you that the Company really shouldn't have let Frodo in that water but, as this is pre-Hollin and Moria, how were they to know? I'm one of those silly people who, when I am watching a film and the hero goes underwater, holds her breath in sympathy! Bit difficult when you are reading and have to wait for updates!

You've killed Frodo! Is there any more that can be said? Well, being it's me . . . I don't blame Pippin for being frightened of Gollum. MEWD!

Poor Frodo! It does indeed sound as if Gollum has caught him. This story is very exciting and I look forward to more.

Wow! You're doing a great job here, Budgielover! Of course Merry would try to accompany Aragorn and Boromir, and Gandalf would stay him. Pippin's guess or better fear that it might have been Gollum is very plausible. Although, I have to agree with Merry. Aragorn said "they"! So, who are they??? I suspect that I have to wait a while until I get an answer to this particular question ;-) And thank you very much for showing also Frodo's point of view in this story. At the moment it is filled with pain! Poor Frodo! But he's Frodo and he won't give up that easily!

WOW - where did you find this story? Was it in Tolkien's Unfinished Tales or something? Seriously - you write so very well, and the characters seem so close to Tolkien's, that one would think you 'found' this little tale and were posting it for our edification! Excellent tale - excellent chapter.... NOW - how about saving Frodo so I can go back to a normal life?

The reactions here are so very true to the characters. I love that Gandalf, along with the other hobbits, cannot take his eyes off the rescue attempt. Merry's attempt to go with them was very much our Merry--and I think only Gandalf could have stayed him. Pippin's worry about Gollum brings out the first thing anyone would think of--good way to do it. Yes, I can see that Gollum would have frightened a young hobbit far more than dragons or trolls. And I love Gimli's practicality here. He's just as worried as everyone else, but he's not going to let him keep from doing what needs doing. Poor Frodo--that glimpse at the end--of course his parents would have been on his mind...

Gollum perhaps? Or a grindlylow? (Have I been thinking too much of Harry Potter, I wonder?) Now, will the Men find the opening and be able to pursue him?

Ewww! Your descriptions are so realalistic(did I spell that wrong?) I loved the ones about the Hobbits bones, I got a real visual with that one 'come to think of it this whole chapter was very visual!
