Poor Pippin. He's lost enough that he's willing to risk all. Whereas Sweetie has no chances to take. I hope Pippin manages to work out what's amiss - and why all this banishing from the Shire is such a bad idea. Whether for hobbits or men. Author Reply: Poor Sweetie. Must be hard to be married to a hobbit whose calling is somewhat adventurous. Pippin is something of a gambler, I think! I do wish that JRRT had left us more notes about how the Edict was supposed to work. What little he did write sounds like a complete and utter ban, and so it's very difficult to work out compromises.

Now, Aragorn, when it is your friend and the Thain himself that demands you ignore your own ban, will you do it? Best listen--you know how stubborn Tooks--and especially this one--can get! He'll even be likely to use Frodo's own Look on you! Go, Pippin! Author Reply: I dunno, do you think he will? Pippin was born with a silver tongue in his mouth... we can only hope...
