Oh, good! Little by little Merry is getting coaxed back in--and I really suspect that he is just what Pippin needs! “As long as you have people who love you, it doesn’t matter as much that you’re broken.” This is a great line, profound and true. Excellent chapter; really good dialogue and pacing and a hopeful emotional arc for Merry! Author Reply: Wow, thank you, elanor :-) It really is good to hear about the actual writing (dialogue and pacing). I constantly doubt myself. I think it would take Merry a very long time to feel *comfortable* with Pippin in this condition, and I know it wouldn't happen if it weren't someone he loves so dearly. That line is what I hope is true.

“As long as you have people who love you, it doesn’t matter as much that you’re broken.” Merry and Strider both looked at Frodo. “It’s what that girl and her doll Pippin told us about said to him. Remember, Merry?” Wow! I think it's very fitting that it was Frodo who remembered what the little girl said! And she was right! Love is indeed a powerful medicine. Despite what goes around in Merry's head, he *is* a brave hobbit. For against his fears he stays there with Pippin. Pippin will feel it, I'm sure. Maybe he just needed his Merry and of course - The Blessing! Or so I hope ... Thank you Pearl & Golden! Author Reply: You are most welcome, Andrea, from both of us :-) Golden reads all the responses but as the story is posted at my place here at SOA, she can't write replies. Like me, she is very grateful for them all! He is a brave hobbit, even though he has his doubts. Things will start looking up soon :-) Thank you!

Poor Merry. This is worse for him than anyone else at the moment, I think. Some of them can take comfort in offering physical care - but it's Merry's love, in all likelihood, that will make the difference. Mentally, anyway. Herbs can only do so much. Author Reply: Yes, hardest for him because he has such trouble with the whole issue of anyone being in this condition. Love is powerful medicine :-) Thank you so much, Bodkin!

And the blessing fills Pippin, and will begin the calling back. Yes, Pippin will come through it all, surrounded and fulfilled by the love all need and that he could give so well. Author Reply: Well said, Larner! Blessings do more than many of us give them credit for and can reach the farthest places. Thank you :-)

Wow...wow. Awesome. wow. Sorry -- I can't get over how fantastic, how wonderful this chapter was. It was *very* tenderly written. I am so happy that Merry has come to terms with Pippin and his ailments. None of them were the same as before, so really, none of them should be treated as "before". It is truly sad for anyone to be in such a state as Pippin is in, but glory be to those angels (hobbits :-) ) who stay firm in their love. Excellent as usual, Pearl! Fantastic, Golden! PF Author Reply: Thank you, PF!! That will be something to explore as the story goes on, how all of them have permanent hurts - Pippin's and Frodo's just show up more easily. You're too kind :-)

Poor Merry! This is a harsh blow for him, and he'll never quite stop blaming either himself *or* Pippin...but perhaps, perhaps he can begin to understand. Author Reply: Yes. Merry's having a hard time. Hobbits seem pretty good at letting things go, well, the "happy" ones. Some do hold grudges. But I think the sting of all this will fade for these two. Thank you, Dreamflower :-)

Oh! Poor Merry! I don't blame Aragorn being angry but the others had his best interests in mind, afterall they had Elrond. Nonetheless I am glad Aragorn is there. Merry it seems is finally coming to terms with things a bit and ready to be present. I'm so anxious for the next bit. You and Golden are still doing a supreme job! Looking forward to more! Author Reply: Thank you so much, Hai :-) Hopefully the next bit will be fairly soon. Merry is trying, dear lad.

What a powerful chapter. I was starting to get teary. Poor Merry. I think he had to go through the hurt and the anger and the whole gambet of emotions so that he can start to accept the situation as it is and help Pippin regain as much as he can. Now Aragorn knows how it feels to be left out of the loop. In a way it serves him right. I think, now that Merry has worked through his anger and some of his sadness, things will start to look up. I'm looking forward to what Elrond may be able to do to help. I'm also looking forward to seeing Pippin wake up. Once again, great job. Keep up the good work. Author Reply: Thank you so much, Garnet :-) It did serve his majesty right, hehehe Merry is hurting more than Pippin at the moment, but he's headed in the right direction :-) One more chapter then Pip will be on his way back :-)
