| One of the griefs with which Legolas must live--not having had much time with his mother. Author Reply: Tolkien killed off most of his women very quickly. Frodo, Boromir and Faramir, Eowyn and Eomer, Theodred.... the list just goes on and on. One grief! | |

| I had no idea that Legolas had not known his mother. That's what happens when one lives in the Shire. We hobbits just don't get out enough. This was so lovely and sad. Author Reply: I don't think anyone is quite sure as to when Thanduil's wife died. It really doesn't matter that much - what matters is that the short time she had as Legolas' mother must have been sweet. I don't go with the theory that Thranduil was a harsh father. Legolas would not have turned out as 'glorious' as he did. Thanks for the review! | |

| Something else I haven't thought of before, but living such long lives must have meant that if you lost someone dear to you the pain was with you far longer. The gift of being immortal might not have always been a gift. Author Reply: I belive, GW, that the gift is really the one given Men - that of death. Long-suffering is what, I believe, finally drove the Elves out of Middle-earth and to Valinor. Hopefully, reunions were joy-filled there! | |
