How grim is war and death. War Legolas has known, but death is new to him and frightening, especially now that he cares for so many whose lives will end in death. The scene where he is dragging away the orc bodies from the elven dead shook me to the core. He was totally lost to himself. Gimli grappled him back to sanity, but not before Legoas was marked and changed by all he had seen and endured that day. Then swiftly on his descent into madness, you send an innocent to save him from himself. The boy's recovery was just enough hope to offset the blackness enveloping the Mirkwood elf. Then to see Aragorn so diminished and sad. This was a tough first installment to read, but I loved every word of it. You write with great power. I felt as though I were there.
Very powerful imagery. Very well done. |
