| This was such a dreadful scene and no wonder the world screamed NO. It was all so hopeless at that point and such a waste to risk one so brave and all who went with him. Author Reply: Denethor reminds me so much of the generals of our wars. Sending company after company, platoon after platoon, and regiment after regiment out to battle - hoping that the 'greater good' was important enough to offer up the lives of their men. As a mother, I would do the same if my children were in danger. Denethor's failing came from the fact that he put EVERYTHING ahead of his children, IMHO. But that is the way he was brought up, and the way the world revolved in his time. And the nature of the Evil that he faced. And in the BOOK, he did plan and SEND a sortie out to 'rescue' them when they retreated, as he knew they would have to do. He was not stupid. | |
