| Merry leaned his head against the back of the settee and closed his eyes to listen. Pippin played a familiar Shire ballad at first, a sweet and sad one, and then he began to improvise. Merry could hear in the ever-changing melody their journey and their friends: Frodo, dearer than dear, best beloved all their lives; and Sam, loyal and steadfast; Gandalf, whom they'd known since their childhood, and yet never truly known till they thought they had lost him; Strider, so much more than he seemed at the start, lordly and high beneath his Ranger guise; the lightness that was Legolas, merry and grave at the same time; the sturdiness of Gimli, stalwart and true. And Boromir was there as well, brave and proud and sorrowful and doomed…Fangorn, and Rohan, and Gondor…and home…and through and under and within every lingering note, the hopefulness of his Pippin… *chills* Beautiful. | Oh, the description of that music brought a lump into my throat. Music has to be one of the greatest, sweetest blessings given us by God, and both as a musician/singer (that is, I love to sing) and just as a person, I'm awed each time I see how it touches others and what astonishing power it has. That was just what these two needed, I think. God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Loving music, yet being myself only mediocre as a musician, I let Pippin fulfill my wish to create wonderful music--and I can often both hear and visualize him playing! Music is just such an integral part of life. And yes, they needed it. Playing soothes Pippin, and listening to Pippin play soothes Merry. | |

| Too 'excited'! Itseems that Frodo is not the only one who is a master of deception. Author Reply: Well, I suppose that it would depend on one's definition of "excited", but I would not be surprised at that either--after all, both Pippin and Merry were able to keep the Conspiracy from Frodo! And Pippin showed that he too, could be deceptive when they were among the Uruks. I don't think they'd have cared to share their real reason for staying up with the housekeeper. | |

| They had weathered another storm together. Always together...the way things should be and the only way sometimes storms can be weathered. | Oh, I can see just this comfort being shared by the pair of them. A most sad anniversary, and it's good they had one another to share it with that night. Author Reply: Thank you. I think those first few months would have been fraught with memories which they needed one another in order to share. And Pippin's music would have been a lot of help. | |

| Beautiful, Dreamflower :-) I love that Pippin can have that kind of magical music in his soul, and I love that our lads have each other. Author Reply: Pippin finds in music his natural outlet for expressing his true feelings--and for Merry, listening to Pippin's music is an outlet for him. | |
