I've hauled up my tree stump next to the campfire all ready to listen the the tale of the wondrous jewel! Author Reply: Hurrah! Sounds cosy!

Tolly's really being given some food for thought now. I liked the way he suddenly realized that Lotho, too, was a ruffian of sorts. And the confusion over how to send any sort of message to Tolly is all too realistic for that sort of turmoil... Author Reply: Yes, with the Shire off-limits, how does one find a particular hobbit, especially if he was always the one who visited you, and not the other way around? If the woodcutter's family weren't literate, they'd not even have Tolly's address, for the exchanging of letters...
