A Prank on Glorfindel  by Esteliel 2 Review(s)

I was quite impressed that Elrond stayes with his sons until the clean-up was completed. I was most impressed that he not only stayed - he helped. Very nice chapter and I like the creativity with the plant's properties.

Author Reply: Thank you! I felt that, not only would Elrond want to make certain the work was done properly. He also would have wanted to support his sons through this arduous task. I believe his intent was not to 'make them feel miserable' for 'punishment', but to teach them through experience just HOW careful you must be with Uruin, and HOW resilient the remnants of Uruin really are, and HOW much of a job it is to remove all remnants of Uruin after a spill.

In later life (which, as we all know shall be a long one) neither of the twins will ever be attempted to carelessly wipe the table after the use of Uruin and then assume it 'will be enough'. He also hoped that it would thoroughly convince them of the importance not to spill any Uruin!

I believe that their morning spent cleaning the apothecary was a far better way to get this message across, than any spoken words could ever have.

Onwards!

Author Reply: *snort!* Perhaps make that 'tempted' instead of 'attempted'. :) It's late!

From the pedagogic POV, the twins had to be punished for their disobedience, but from the emotional one, I still felt sorry for them. I can just imagine how boring lessons with Erestor are in comparison to archery with Glorfindel or one of his warriors! And to wipe the floor in this way *is* boring. But Elrond is right, it was necessary.

And now I am so curious what they have in mind!

Author Reply: So true, it really is boring. However, Uruin is a 'dangerous' herb, and apart from punishing his sons, Elrond also meant to instill on them just how risky the spilling of even a tiny bit of Uruin can be.

However, I would never wish this on a human child. When I wrote this chapter, I kept in mind that Elladan and Elrohir are elves, which means that they do have a little more patience and endurance than human children. Otherwise the punishment would have been a little severe, don't you agree? ;)

Thanks for your review! ~Esteliel
