Well - I'm definitely glad I continued with this. Sounds like the makings of a great ghost story. I love the 'maybe one of those green spirits is stuck in the Tower?' Made me laugh... though the cleaning lady will probably have the last laugh! I like Gorthol - very much. All right - how come every time there's a ghost, folks go where they are supposed to be AT NIGHT... What the heck is wrong with Faramir? Oh, of course, it's the Muse... And I also liked Faramir's reasoning of why he should find the Anor stone. You write 'the insatiable curiosity led Faramir' - but I really think it was just his incredible mind - that told him he really must do this, ghost or no. I love the 'of blessed memory' - perfect statement. *sobs a little* And the ending line was perfect! Dear Faramir! Nice job so far - can't wait to continue! Author Reply: Gee whiz, Agape. Are you one of those people who reads a mystery and knows whodunit from the get go? Let's just say, your very own comments in this review point to the resolution of the mystery. Have fun. - Steff

A lovely spooky atmosphere. You have me very curious.I must dust off my copy of Unfinished Tales too. Author Reply: Thanks, Linda! "Unfinished Tales" has lots of gems and some bits that put me to sleep. "The Palantiri" is a must read for anyone who writes Gondor culture. I reread it when i started "Dead Steward's Gift." What a surprise to find out that during the reign of the Kings, it was the Steward's responsibility to view the palantir and tell the king what was happening. So the ruling Stewards had every right to use the palantir, though few had the ability until Denethor. - Steff

Ooh, creepy... can't wait to find out what it really is up there, ghost or no. One thing I wanted to mention, I think you mean "annals" (meaning historical records) instead of "anals." Otherwise, great chapter! Author Reply: Hi Sarasrati, Neilia, and all who read these reviews: The anals of Gondor are no more :) . They have been replaced by the far less amusing annals. I like to write comedy, but this time the joke was on me. Spelling checkers pass both anals and annals.
