Wow! That scene always gets to me - I always end up with tears running down my face but I want to stand up and cheer at the same time - it really is the most glorious, mad, awe-inspiring battle-scene. You capture Merry's thoughts perfectly, Pearl. Author Reply: Thank you so much Baggins Babe :-) It truly is a powerful scene. Tolkien once said that it was one of his favorite scenes - that he would think of it whenever he heard horn calls.

Enjoyed this little fic, Pearl! I really like stories that go into the minds of the characters and let us know what they're thinking. This was cool! Author Reply: Thank you so much cathleen :-) (I wonder why you like getting inside their heads? Hmmm . . . ;-) )

Most awesomely well done, Pearl! I do love the type of drama that depicts what a person thinks as they approach danger, elation, or whatever. I came upon the bivouac of Merry and the soldiers in ROTK (book) while doing other research and just before their final leg toward Minas Tirith, Merry *twice* imagines poor Pippin shut up and helpless in the Stone City and desires to rescue him. In this lovely movie-centric scene I think you complimented that. Btw...I think you did a fantastic job with Merry! Author Reply: Wow! And here I was fearing that I was pushing the Pippin issue. It is cool to know I wasn't :-) Thank you so much dear Pippinfan! :-)

Wow what an awful moment and you have made us all feel it so well with Merry! Author Reply: Thank you harrowcat! It was really different to sit and watch the scene to really analyse what Dominic's acting reveals of Merry's thoughts.

Ah, what a wonderful expansion on that movie moment! Marvelously stirring after that moment of being totally aghast! What a king to follow at that moment! Author Reply: Thank you Larner :-) Theoden definitely regained his honor!

“Pippin! Pippin!” my heart is screaming although my mouth is silent. There is no hope on the plains before us, only death. Ohhh, what a dreadful moment for Merry. This is beautiful written, Pearl. Author Reply: Thank you m'dear shirebound :-) Dreadful indeed to feel so overwhelmed by enemies.

My dear Pearl, That was great! I could see the movie scene while reading your story. And it was a scene that moved me very much. Even Merry, a hobbit from the peaceful Shire, can't resist the battle call! I found a song recently, which is called "MARCH OF CAMBREADTH" by Heather Alexander. Here's an excerpt of it that reminded me immediately of the scene you described: Use your shield and use your head Fight ‘til everyone is dead Raise the flag up to the sky How many of them can we make die? Last but not least: MEWD :) Author Reply: Wow, a MEWD! Thank you so much Andrea :-) Those are harsh words in that song, but sometimes I'm sure that is what it is like.
