As always, richly written and deeply savored. Thank you!

That was a close escape, indeed. Glad they weren't hurt and then found the cave to wait out the storm. And I am even more glad they seem to finally realise that they are needed at home and that this revenge-driven quest can't be going on forever. Author Reply: They weren't hurt - this time - but the realisation of what could have happened this time; next time; some other time - has made them stop and think about what they will lose if they follow this path. I'm working on a response from Elrond's POV.

I love the way you've expanded on the original - so much more colour and emotion. I'm even happier that they're planning on going home. Author Reply: Although I like drabbles, sometimes they're too restricting - the subject demands more depth and feel than I can get into 100 words. The twins' sense of loss and isolation needed more, especially their realisation of where they should really be. Thanks, Bodkin!

beautifully expanded upon. I like the way you bring the biting chill of the cold reality of revenge into such startling relief for them that they finally realize what warms their hearts and matters most now. well done! Author Reply: Thanks - it's the first moment where they stop to consider the cost of their orc hunting, and see the sacrifice they and their family have made.

I am happy to see in this writing that the twins are rethinking their priorities. They do need to be home with those that love them. Even though the twins have each other, that bond is not enough to live an immortal lifetime on. Author Reply: They're beginning to see a glimmer of hope, and realise that there is more to their lives than killing orcs. Even though they will always have each other, there is room for other family and friends as well now.

Ah, Jay, you know how much I love the brothers! And I grieve to see them stranded in a blizzard instead of at home. But maybe they will make it home before the next Midwinter? I hope so; they sound like they are finally learning that their orc hunt cannot be all-consuming. I love the star of hope at the end, too. Well done, Jay! - Barbara Author Reply: I love the twins too, even like this. They're still angry and grieving - but they can see light and hope again now. The first star of Midwinter is a tradition of Imladris that I've created - it marks the start of the festivities. E2 have very happy memories of this tradition from when they were children.

A terrible beginning to a sparse yet in its way joyful midwinter festival, for they have survived and once again diminished the number of orcs in Middle Earth. They have one another, and the primeval stars, and their grandfather undoubtedly looks down on them in pride and exasperation. Author Reply: It's a bleak and lonely time for them as they remember happier Midwinters - but at least they have those memories, and each other. The 'first star' of Midwinter is an Imladris tradition I've written about a few times. Its appearance marks the start of the celebrations. Thanks for reviewing!
