Oh, so true, Lindelea. Having his cousins and Sam with him helped give him the will to continue he needed so desperately. Lovely! And poor Merry--covered in mud like that! Author Reply: Thanks! (Poor Merry--makes one wonder about things like spare clothing and "laundry" (or not, as it were) along the trail...)

Ah, this is a lovely short--I especially appreciated Gandalf's pov because it is not used nearly enough in fan fiction. well, let us just say that "Pippin" and "patience" do not belong, spoken together in the same breath *giggles* A very nice, Gandalfian way of phrasing the oxymoron. As usual, it was the little things that really got me, from that to Sam realizing that they were going to be eating a lot of fish and thus packing the necessities, Frodo just dragging out the possibility that there would be no dinner, etc. Thanks for writing this! Author Reply: Somehow missed replying to reviews here, and so belatedly... You're welcome, and thanks for stopping by and leaving a word of cheer.

Great to see this Lindelea. I do hope that it was more than one fish. Author Reply: Thanks! (I think it was several, at least. After all, they're going to be hungry, all that walking, and probably could use a trout apiece.)

Lovely, Lindelea! I could hear it all so clearly, and I loved the touch with Frodo looking at his now muddy hand after patting Merry. And Sam thinking to bring supplies for breading and seasoning freshly caught fish. Well done as always! Author Reply: Belated thanks! (I know, I can just see the expression on Frodo's face, looking at his hand.)

I remember this! What fun to see it again! Gandalf does know his hobbits well, doesn't he? Author Reply: Belated thanks! I think Gandalf does know his hobbits well... and yet, they can still surprise him. *g*
