| It has taken me a while to get round to reviewing - sorry Lindelea. All three were great tho I liked Frodo's the best. The folk song pattern that you chose for Grima's song was just perfect! Author Reply: Y'know, Grima's song *still* makes me wince. Ah, Frodo's song. Leaves me a little bit melancholy. I do wonder if Lotho's bones were ever found and laid properly to rest. | |

| These are sorrowful. What might Lotho have become had he not taken on his parents' envy and acquisitive natures, and the dislike of Frodo? Too bad they couldn't have made it in time.... Grima's was awful! As for Frodo's--how typical! We do love our Frodo! Author Reply: Yes, one must consider that Lotho must have had a great deal of potential, if only he had not had such a tragic flaw, and such ill judgment in his choice of advisor/business partner/whatever. Grima... I think on him as little as possible. And Frodo, yes, this is the Frodo we love, strong (of will, anyhow), compassionate, forgiving, merciful. Looking forward to seeing you! And yes, they do have hot chocolate, if I'm remembering right. | |

| Believe it or not, this is the first time I've actually pitied Lotho. Of course, his death was horrible and not to be wished upon anyone, but I'd never thought of him as repenting; yet his song here shows the idea that perhaps at the last, he has seen the error of his ways. His song is very hobbit-like and simple and certainly shows a change of heart. Poor thing, missing his mother, longing for comfort, hoping for salvation, fearing the worst. Grima's gruesome limerick is both in-character and horrifying. Makes me shiver. And Frodo's song -- what can I say? Best-educated of the three, deepest in meaning, most compassionate -- very in-character, like the others. Well done, dear! Lotho's song was meant to be simpler, Frodo's more complex, and Grima's... well, it makes me shudder, too. This image of Lotho arose from Frodo's words on his return to the Shire: "I imagine he's badly frightened..." How understanding Frodo was, how wise, with wisdom gained in suffering and difficulty, and sacrifice. (And Gandalf whispers in the back of the mind, something about Pity stayed his hand...)
