I, personally, have found this story to be very in keeping with canon and very entertaining. I think the manner in which you write Denethor is more than possible. Keep going and don't let ANYONE tell you this is an AU. Author Reply: Psst - just found your review here. Very sorry I did not reply earlier. Much needed support from the Grey Wonderer... I hope you forgive the Cat for what's coming up... And thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!

What an interesting personality you've created! This is definitely a different kind of intelligence--not a human dressed up as a cat. I haven't figured out exactly what standards the cat is holding but he clearly has them, like deciding that he owes Pippin his allegiance. I wouldn't be surprised if Gandalf is completely aware that the cat is listening. "If they would only consider sitting in the sun more, drinking warm milk, laying about and watching as the world went by..." A wise cat, indeed. I'm delighted to see that there are many chapters ahead. Author Reply: Thanks, Episcopal Witch. I most appreciate your reading and responding. The Cat is a composite of the cats I have lived with. Though you could cuddle them if you REALLY needed to... most were quite independent. I can just see this little guy and his standoffish ways... except where Denethor is concerned... then, only those who really know him can see there is a brave, warm, loyal heart beating behind the 'imperial' facade.

Interesting spy network Denethor has--a cat and a palantir. Makes for a well-prepared ruler for the nation! Heh! Author Reply: He needs rugrats too - but I think they'd be too afraid of him! Beruthiel's cats were definitely used as spies... I just thought they'd try to keep that 'strain' of giftedness going!

Such a wee spy Denethor sends to be his eyes and ears! I'm glad she has the good sense to see things of interest in the Halfling. Cats are so clever ;-) This is a delight, Agape! Author Reply: Thanks very much, Pearl. It will be interesting to see which way her loyalties will lie... Pip is very easy to fall in love with!

This is a very interesting concept and nicely written. The characterisation and voice of the cat is excellent. I have enjoyed reading this and look forward to more. Author Reply: Thanks, Elea24 - it seems there might be a few more chapters. The cat hasn't specifically told me yet. You know cats; they like to be mysterious! Thanks for your kind words too!

I like the idea there are still cats with special powers and Numenorean lifespans in M-e! We could indeed learn a lot from cats! Author Reply: I think Denethor has a shirt that says.... Everything I Know I Learned From My Cat! Glad you like the idea, Linda!

As a hopelessly besotted cat-lover, this story is perfect for me. You have her 'essential catness'exactly. She seems facinated by Pippin - perhaps we can introduce her to my hobbity cat, Rufus, the real lord of Bag End! Author Reply: My daughter was terribly surprised that the cat spoke to me - she thought a dog would have been my preference... but I don't see Denethor with a dog... Say hello to Rufus for me... I doubt he and Alqualonde will ever meet.

Oh, I do like having this from the POV of the darling cat. Alqualondë is very entertaining and very clever I see. I like the observation that Alqualondë makes in this. Looking forward to more. Author Reply: Thanks GW - I'm looking forward to more too - this tale just jumped out at me :)

I love this cat! Wonderful voice and perspective. I hope this goes on and on--it's fascinating! Author Reply: Thanks ever so much, elanor. It seems it might be here for a bit, unless the cat takes off and leaves me... wanderlust...

What a fascinating notion! I can easily see Denethor as being a 'cat person,' and this is certainly a different perspective on the siege of Gondor! Author Reply: Thanks, SS - hopefully I won't have to bother you with 'anatomy' questions. ROTFL.... It will be very interesting to see what the cat sees.
