Tide of Destiny - Part One: Choices  by Lady Bluejay 2 Review(s)
PryderiReviewed Chapter: 8 on 2/21/2008
I thought I had better let you know that I am still reading this and enjoying it immensely. At one stage I had to go back and read it again to get all your OCs and their relationships sorted out in my brain. I particularly enjoyed Lothiriel's sojourn with Seron. I thought for a bit that he had to be T.H. White's Merlin dropped out of another universe. He seemed so much more confident about what would happen than what had happened and Merlin, of course, was living backwards so that was his characteristic too. Anyway I think I identified him more accurately later.
Another similarity, that I see in these early chapters, with The Sword in the Stone is the education/personal development of your two young protagonists. They both have natural skills and strengths which with initial youthful enthusiasm they expect to be all that is going to be necessary but through their experiences they are learning that their natural talents are not enough. They have to cope with situations where a learned response is more appropriate than a natural one and by now they are both actively seeking to develop a proper balance between these two poles.
In this chapter I was delighted to meet Duinhir's wife and I wonder whether this tale will cross over with the lovely story you wrote about the River Lord's homecoming after the Ring War. I do hope so.
Well this week's typo to challenge the spell check is a particularly fine one. (At least I think it's a typo. Grins.) When you write "with the coming of spring to the Riddermark the treat of raids increased tenfold" I think perhaps you may have intended "threat". I am not sure you should correct this one. I have been giggling about it for days.
Pryderi.

Author Reply: Thanks for your lovely review. I did not intentionally model Seron on Merlin - but it is a book I love so maybe I did it subconsciously.

The tale will cross - in part two - with my Duinhir story - 'The Return'. I wrote it for that reason and will direct readers to it later on.

Ha! The errant typo! - I am surprised you did not find more! Thanks for that and I am glad you are enjoying my story. LBJ

Gosh! I didn't know stallions did that but then I think all the male horses I've seen were gelded.I used to ride Show Horses when I was a kid. Anyway I really enjoyed this very long chapter, this story is so very interesting, I hope Dear old Umar gets his blankety blank kicked soon because I really hate him and Eomer what is he thinking? Will be waiting for more Hugs The Imp

Author Reply: I understand from Sulriel that stallions can be a right nuisance and need lots of attention from their owners to keep them in line. But I gave Eomer one - because he is an expert! Umar will get his comeuppance- eventually! Thanks for reviewing. LBJ
