| It's wonderful to see something new from you. I believed in Frodo's restlessness, and it makes sense that he needs to get away from home for a while. But it's worrisome that he's going on his own. Makes me wonder if he's going to get into difficulties. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. | Hi! Haven't been around here much lately (life is busy, between school and the writing of my own original stuff and oodles of other tiny things that pile up), but I'm so glad to have found something new from you just beginning! You write restlessness very well. I could feel it quite keenly. Poor Frodo, that's a horrible feeling. But I'm gladhe found something to look forward to...though I have the oddest feeling that all is not going to go well and all will wish Sam *had* come before it's over...but maybe that's my sense of the potential for angst running away with me. :) And the end made me laugh. | That's beautiful - like coming home to a beloved house, after a long trip through coldness and rain (even if Frofo's trip is just about to begin. *smiles*)My heart is bleeding a bit for poor Sam, though I can understand Frodo's wish to run free for a while very well. | Well, didn't get to read yesterday--when dawn came I was trying to grab a few more winks, after being wakened several times in the night by the young hobbits, for one reason or another... but today is another day. Right off you remind me of why I love your hobbity writing, with a delectable meal I can nearly smell cooking. Frodo, restlessly prowling Bag End, his dissatisfaction coming to a sharp point in surveying the shabbiness of Bilbo's room, brings to mind an echo of his friends watched him anxiously Ai, Daisy Boffin and her husband! I wouldn't invite them again, either. (I do hope Merry and Pippin and Folco and Freddy stuck up for Frodo and Bilbo, even if they made a jest of it.) Images that hang in my mind... a trail of ink droplets across the page chrysanthemums under the study window shining gold as a dragon’s hoard Frodo's restlessness embodied in the wind and weather, the flock of sparrows winging their way to summer lands. I wonder what his dreams of Bilbo mean? I haven't seen any gap-fillers describing Bilbo's wanderings after he left the Shire for good. Ah, Lotho, that hobbit we love to despise. Poor fellow. Putting the walking party together was fun to read. I can hear your Folco's voice in my head, well characterized in a sentence or two. Sam the spaniel! (Faithful fellow... ah, but Frodo, you're the devious one, knowing just what handle to take him up by--was going to say "button to push" but that doesn't sound hobbity) There is much more I could say, but then the review would go on longer than the story! (And young hobbits ought to be pitter-pattering about at any time, now.) Hmm. I wonder just what trouble Frodo (with or without Pip) is going to get himself into. In the meantime, I'm thirsty for fresh-pressed cider, but will have to settle for tea. Looking forward to more! Author Reply: Oh, I do love your reviews! | An intriguing start, indeed! So, Frodo managed to get rid of Sam? Clever hobbit ;-) No, really, he had to put a stop to this, or Sam would be moving into Bag End lock, stock, and barrel, and he'd never draw free breath again. That I can understand, very well! Let's see what awaits our three cousins without Sam to help. P.S.: I have no idea what a "corker" might be, and my dictionary neither. Would you give me a clue? Author Reply: A corker is - well, a bit of a wild card. Never know what they'll do next, but it will almost certainly be exasperating, and if you're responsible for said corker, may involve you in embarrassment and possibly paying for broken windows, etc. Funny, it's a word I've used all my life, but I can't find it in the dictionary either! | Two Daisy Boffins, are there--his Uncle Dudo Baggins's daughter who married Griffo Boffin and this unknown cousin of his mother's? Interesting! And this one does sound a corker--her and her husband! Glad he doesn't have to have much to do with her, and don't blame him for not inviting her again! And it was a clever way to keep Sam from accompanying him, I must say! Heh! Author Reply: (blushing) Ah well, I suppose hobbit parents have the same problem I do: there are only so many flowers that make nice names! There must be a lot of Daisies and Rosies residing in the Shire, when you think about it. | |
