This one nicely captures the way a smell, taste, word or other stimulus reminds us of something and sticks with us throughout our lives. To think that the color white- the color of purity, at least in some teachings, was associated with death to Boromir. And how interesting to build that idea around the white hand of Saruman. I must say that I truly feel for the children of people of power, for the front that must be put on at times. Children hardly allowed to grieve as children ought. Personally, I thought Faramir had it exactly right. I must say I hate seeing Faramir in pain ;( Author Reply: Thank you very much for the feedback, Nilmandra; it's much appreciated. To think that the color white- the color of purity, at least in some teachings, was associated with death to Boromir. And how interesting to build that idea around the white hand of Saruman. For thirteen years I taught in an area of Sydney which is largely Asian - mostly Vietnamese/Chinese - and one of the things I learnt there was that their brides tend to wear red and see our white-clad brides as rather odd because white is the colour of death. It can be seen as the absence of all colour, after all (or as Fileg pointed out, the presence of all colour). Anyway, somehow something clicked in my mind when I read in someone else's banner challenge about the Steward's all white flag... The odd things is that I don't read particularly visually - but I certainly tend to write from pictures. I must say that I truly feel for the children of people of power, for the front that must be put on at times. Yep. I think my inspiration for that came partly from watching poor Prince William and Harry - especially Harry - being forced to mourn so publicly for their mother. Cheers, Avon | |
