| Thats a lesson many children should learn sad though it is and dangerous too. I once touched one of the hotplates in my mothers kitschen as a child. I was about four years old and mom repetedly told me no until she turned her back on me for a few seconds and- never again did I touch them. I was fascinated with the heat and sometimes redness of the plates I had seen when mom let me look in her pots and pans sometimes.And after that I indeed had a healthy respect of fire too and all things very hot! Poor mom I think she thought it was awful too.I like Eldarion did not get hurt very much.A very good story about childrens curiousity and parents feelings, mine too as I have a son myself. | |

| I had to laugh when I saw the title - I just finished reading Fiondil's latest chapter of Stirrings and it is about the aftermath of a fire. Perhaps Eldarion should read that :-) Being a parent myself, these choices are incredibly difficult. But safety and the life of the child are paramount... One does what one has to. | Certainly some lessons like this are needed to teach children. I know that my younger brother would not keep away from the stove until he accidentally burned himself when my parent's back was turned. I remember when I accidentally burned myself when I was 7; I'm still afraid of cooking even now ;P Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. | Aah, the perils of childhood. I can assure you Linda, every parent definitely understands these hard earned lessons. I also burned myself playing with matches and managed to set my mom's kitchen curtains on fire in the process. Healthy respect indeed. | I fear I had to learn much the same way as did Eldarion here--as has been true for so many. Sometimes a small hurt today saves one from a great injury or death in the future, which is the whole point behind immunizations, of course. Very true to life, particularly the dilemma Aragorn finds himself facing. | One of your best Tales of Telcontar; a truly agonizing choice for Aragorn. His wisdom, and his and Arwen's love for their son, are almost palpable. And I love the last line! | I really enjoyed the first version of this and like this expanded version even better. I don't think of the way Aragorn acted as cruel at all... sometimes you do have to let your child safely experience the consequences of his actions. I really like the background story of Thorongil and the burned child, as well--yes, far better to have one slightly scorched little finger than to have your child suffer a far worse fate.
