| Oh, that was neat - Frodo's thoughts, esp. at the end. Another part in which you note that the Story as well as the Road goes ever on and on and we are all involved in it stretching back through the many many years. Everytime I hear Aragorn say in the BBC Radio program in this scene, that "we have naught to fear" under the shadows of these statues, I think how can you say that, one of them is Isildur and he screwed up, but like Frodo, I can't blame him either. I have these statues as book ends myself. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I do too. :-) The ones that came with the Fellowship extended edition, that is. | I can far too easily see Frodo thinking this at that moment. (Although in the movie I believe it was the statue of Elendil that held the birds nest--although in the past three thousand years both statues probably held birds nests, while in the book the statues were of both Elendil's sons--Isildur and Anarion--rather than the elder son and the father.) Yes, Isildur was freed of the burden by the orcs, and so it's fallen to another to do what Isildur could not. Author Reply: I'd never heard that the statues in the movie were supposed to be Elendil and Isildur. Typical inexplicable Jacksonization, if so. Interesting. Anyway, the inspiration for the drabble was the scene in the book, though the birds were indeed from the movie. :-) | |
