My Sword Trembles - Book Three - 'My Sword' Series  by Agape4Gondor 5 Review(s)

<<<<“It is past time for bed for this little one,” Aragorn said in Quenya.

“I am not a little one and Anor just set.”

Aragorn looked at the boy in surprise.

“Amma has been teaching me Quenya. I am to be Steward and must know the tongues of the land.”>>>>

I love this exchange - Faramir is most winning (to me) when he shows his strength and grit; and he is showing all that and more here. I've also often thought that as a child Faramir might well have been a bit of a smartass; and that reining him in as a precocious kid would not have always been easy. And that's how he comes across here - a very strong, smart, unusual, kid; but still a kid.

Author Reply: Thanks, Raksha. The boy stood up for himself and I was a bit surprised. The damage done to him during the coup was great. Now that the spell has been lifted, I think his healing will progress at a quicker rate. Especially with two Elves and an erstwhile Ranger to help him.

Thanks for the review!

Faramir a squire for Aragorn? That sounds like a good idea. He would be even more prepared to be Steward when the time comes.

Aragorn and Elrohir wrestling. I love it.

I hope there is no third wizard. One of Curunir is quite enough. Of course, there is always Sauron (shudder). I certainly hope they find a way to break the spell put on Faramir. He's had so much to deal with in his short life.

P.S. I posted this comment on your other site too.

Author Reply: I'm pretty sure the spell is now broken. It is up to Indis to figure out how to keep another one from being laid upon anyone in the Citadel. As for Aragorn and Elrohir - I think Aragorn's ankle is going to 'bite' him for this moment of fun....

Ah--they'd best think several times before trying to speak privately amongst themselves with Faramir about. Clever child! And love that he's tickled to become Aragorn's esquire! Heh! And they recognize the spell as being that of a wizard? Good! Saruman is outing himself!

Author Reply: Didn't you just love it, Larner! Faramir is definitely pretty well-rounded - and now, with Aragorn's help - he'll do just fine... *shivers* until something else happens!

Saruman or ??? They're still not sure... And Gandalf and Elrond still think highly of him......... Yikes!

So Faramir is to become Aragorn's esquire. That's a step in the right direction. The talk about who may have laid the spell on Faramir and Aragorn was chilling, especially the last bit about Sauron. I'm interested in seeing Indis' reaction to Aragorn's letter. *grin*

One little linguistic quibble: “Especially since everyone in Minas Tirith speaks Quenya fluently.” It is doubtful that everyone in Gondor spoke Quenya, fluently or not. Sindarin was the official language of the land along with Westron. Only the loremasters and people like the Steward would be able to read or speak Quenya. Naturally, as the son of Denethor, Faramir would have been taught the language for the reasons he gives, but I would not say it was a language spoken by everyone in the city. It's unlikely that even Sindarin was spoken that much by the commoners. It was the language of government and lore and spoken by the nobles, something like French being the language of the Russian aristocracy during the time of the Tsars, while Russian itself was reserved for the serfs.

Author Reply: Oh my goodness gracious, Fiondil. I obviously did note write Elladan's sarcasm well.... he was being facetious. Sorry.

Chilling indeed if it was Sauron.... Yikes!
