| I think all fathers love to worry about their children. Elrond in this story is sad, but also hopeful--and this story is like LOTr in the hopeful feeling that no matter how bad things gets there's always hope. Author Reply: I think you hit the nail about hope. All right, maybe I'm thinking to much about the scene in which Aragorn says "There is always hope," but--it's true. Had none of the people had hope, they wouldn't have gotten very far. ~Cal | |

| He comes back to me with deeper hurts, his eyes full of tears—not for himself, but for others. What a beautiful line. It really sums up Aragorn's character, and the kind of King he will be. Author Reply: I dearly love Aragorn and all his wonderful qualities, but it was terribly hard to sum up his early years with the word limit. It took me a day to come up with this line, and three days to write this ficlet, despite the fact it's only 500 words. For something that started out as a poem, it grew into something bigger.
