Poor Alqua! I hope he gets some healing himself. Such a sad belief that a good servant should die with his master, but I know it is one that was/is common. Author Reply: Yes indeed - he should have, in his mind's eye, should have jumped upon the pyre with Denethor - but who would look after Faramir... now the Cat's Steward...

I always wondered who got to fill Faramir in on the gory details. The cat is a good solution. And I can see how Alqualonde would succumb to survivor's guilt at this point. Author Reply: Thanks, meckinock. It does seem kind of right for the Cat to be telling Faramir what happened. Gandalf was not privy to the whole thing... nor was Pip for that matter. Survivor's guilt - definitely. Bless you for the review!

Poor, poor Alqualonde! My heart quite broke for the dear Cat. He feels he should have died with Denethor. I hope he can be reassured that he did do the right thing in following Faramir, and I'm sure that Denethor would have wanted someone so loyal to stay beside his son. I feel another hug coming on for this loyal and dignified Cat - I hope he won't mind. :-) Author Reply: Right about now, the Cat will take a hug - if it is done quietly and with dignity......... :-) Truly, Denethor would desperately want the Cat with Faramir, especially thinking that Gondor will fall........ :-(

(He should have died with his master. Is that not what a good servant does?) Somehow I just know that was how Alqualondë felt. I am glad that the two of them were able to share their grief rather than each alone. In the cat's words about Gandalf do I sense that he is not quite as angry as before? Or was that only Alqualondë giving the facts of the matter to Faramir? Author Reply: I think that, for a moment, clarity bereft of loyalty, came to the Cat. We will see... I think Faramir has much to be grateful for - having Denethor's Cat with him... and vice versa... Denethor's son having the Cat with him.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. The poor cat. What a weight he carries on his little shoulders. And Faramir in spite of his great loss tries to comfort the weeping cat. How terribly, terribly sad. Author Reply: Sometimes when sadness is shared, things like still stroking the Cat are done without thought. But the real sharing comes in the tears.....

Oh, I love the kitty here! He wanted to help both, but then thinks he should have died with Denethor? Ah, poor thing! Author Reply: Poor thing is right! Divided loyalties... questions as to the right course... how to leave one he loves alone in death... how to succor that one's son... Good grief - the poor thing is right! Thanks for reviewing, Larner.....

Poor Faramir and poor cat!I am very glad he did not choose to follow Denethor on the pyre. Author Reply: He still does not think he made the right choice... hopefully, Faramir will show him it was... Thanks ever so much for reviewing, Linda!
