| This was a very, very creepy episode,Rouret.I didn't know what to make of Lady Renna at all.She seems terrified of her husband one minute then she's laughing with her ladies while Knights are being dragged away.Also, what is she doing to Legolas? Why is he feeling so out of sorts and what is the cause? It's very strange but very, compelling.This is a great mystery but I'm very nervous about the chapters ahead.At least Gimli is there to protect Legolas, and he will, and Tamin, Kaimalas and Bandy will do their utmost to help him.I can't wait for the next chapter! | “For his esquire, and the honor of women with no honor of their own, I shall take him down, Gimli!” Good for Legolas. At first I could not understand Malbeach's reasons for such a puny tourney at this point and time. What did he have to gain by pushing Legolas so quickly to joust just so that two of his knights would be defeated? But I think--and don't laugh at me if I'm horribly off--but I think it all centers on the dubious Lady Renna. I thought it strange that both knights should so actively hate Legolas, but the second knight's inappropriate comments tipped me off. I think I see that Malbeach wanted to disgrace at worst, kill at best, two men who had outgrown their usefulness. Renna is involved in a very indecent way, I am sure, and I am very concerned over Legolas's lightheadedness around her. It's a good thing Kaimelas begged such a boon from Legolas, and I am relived that Gimli, Bandy, and Kaimelas are stubborn enough to hold Legolas to it. My concern for Eryn Lasgalen is rising by the moment, and I cannot wait to see where you continue to take this story. Author Reply: Hello, Emily! | Another brilliant, if dark chapter. I'm thoroughly on the edge of my seat terrified of what will come next, but too engaged to look away. I love the horses. You have applied your equine knowledge well to writing these characters. I love them almost as much as the main characters! Once again, Gimli shines. No matter how bad things get, I hope I can count on some dwarven justice. Not sure what to think about the lady. Could be an act. I think I lean towards that more than her being a victim. Great chapter. I look forward to seeing 14! Author Reply: Thanks, NiRi! Now I want to go back through my other stories, pre-Spike, and tweak all those horses' characters too. I'm sure I could do much more with Hatchet, now that I've got a little equine experience under my belt. (Just wait 'til we get Spike properly trailered to Mo's ... I'm petrified.) | The suspense! Can't wait to read more. Tamin is always a shining light in the midst of everything. He was so cute in this chapter when he was talking to Legolas. I hated that he had to see those men being so horrible to the horses. :( Here's hoping Legolas will get to the root of the problem and clean house in Esgaroth! Author Reply: Thank you, Candiss! I always enjoy looking at Legolas and his adventures through the eyes of innocence, which is why I love writing characters like Bandobras, Fastred, and Tamin. | Oh my word! Something is seriously nasty in Esgaroth. I'm wondering about the lady. From Legolas' dreams, I'd been supposing her a sorceress and behind the trouble, but her reactions to her husband make me wonder now if she is not as much a victim as those others around him. And what has happened to fill Esgaroth with such evil-spirited people? The mystery has deepened greatly. But I can't fail to mention how much the talk of Sam pleased me! I love it when Bandobras speaks of the Shire and his friends and family there, and when Legolas and Gimli remember the Quest! (By the way--did you get your email about the MEFAs? This story, as well as "The Misty Month of May" have both been nominated! Yes, I got the nominations; my world in RL is a little overwhelming right now, but I've completed the forms and emailed you. I'm sorry for how long it took (and immensely flattered to be nominated). I love throwing snippets of the Ring Quest in the stories, just to remind people that yes, although this is the Green Knight universe, it is but a pale shadow compared to Tolkien's greater work. Sam was my favorite Hobbit, and I imagine Bandy would relate to him and his tireless devotion to "Mister Frodo" than to his Uncle Pippin's impulsive decision to join the Tower Guard. Esgaroth is indeed an evil place, and filled with both victims and evil people ... but you're just going to have to wait to see which side of the fence Renna falls on! Le Rouret | |

| Every time I think this story can't get more chilling, it does. What terrible men. Lady Renna is interesting. I can't decide if she is truly a victim or putting on an act, thanks to the indications of there being some foreign influence at work over Legolas during the joust. I must also say that you write horses beautifully; each has its own character and I found the incident when the men of Esgaroth killed Doring's horse especially upsetting. Author Reply: Hello, Eucalyptus! Yes, Renna is a bit of an enigma, and a new direction for me to write character-wise. I'm hoping she turns out the way I want (my characters have a tendency to get bossy with me, darn them). Writing the death of Doring's horse was harder for me than any other equine death I've related. Hatchet and Piukka at least died for a noble cause; Doring's horse died simply because the men felt like killing him. I love horses; I spend a lot of time around them, and it always bothers me when I have to hurt or injure one in a story. But plot bunnies are in many ways much stronger animals, and I bow to their judgments! Thanks for the review! Chapter 14 is forthcoming. Le Rouret | |
